Collinte 845, D151, or D301 w/MF pad?

I'll be doing a Mercedes that my day job boss owns tomorrow. He just basically wants a wax. There are some fine swirls but being the color it is they are hard to see unless you look with a Autogeekers eye.

I was wondering if doing it with a MF pad and some D301 would do some correcting and lay down good protection, or if I should go for C845 for the durability and shine.

I know he will appreciate the shine of C845 and I've heard that the D301 is not a very good "wax".

I have D151 too so that's a possibility.

Oh and BTW in leaning toward C845 because I won't have to tape off everything since I'm cutting him a "friends & family deal"...

I would go an additional step and point out to him, BEFORE you get started, that there are scratches in his paint that you can remove by polishing....maybe you can upsell him


If it is a newer Mercedes with OEM paint...none of the products you listed will do much to remove even light scratches, unless you are using a DAMF Cutting Pad.

If you use a DAMF Cutting Pad; you risk installing tick marks that will require an additional polishing step to remove

IMO you'll be fine on hard paint with a MF cutting; D301 won't do anything but shine it up a little, D151 might be a better choice if you actually want to knock down the swirls. I can't say I recommend 845 on a MF pad.

As far as the masking, you really shouldn't have to mask with D301 on a MF pad, not sure about 151. If it was me I think I'd use the D301 and top it with the 845. Do a test spot and see how it comes out before you do the rest of the truck.

If it was me, I would still follow Mike P's advice and go least aggressive 1st. Maybe white foam with D151 or D301 and then go from there

Thanks for the advice. I went with just the 845 but I did point out the swirls, a few bug and bird etchings, and water spots but he was ok with just 845 for now so I did what you guys suggest and do what the customer wants.

Yes, we tried 4 different combos and ended up doing a final step w B-Rad on the rotary

The defect left by the DAMF were really tick marks with hazing

I would still use the DAMF with D301 for the compounding step, since we knew a 2nd step would be required


Also had a chance to try the Xtra Cut DAMF on the blue truck pictures. They cut great! Because they have no foam backing, they are best for fla t areas. I was unable to get into the concave area of the hood. Great for highly oxidized paint!
