I am interested in the 6" GG. I am planning on ordering the a 5" backing plate (http://www.autopia-carcare.com/lake-country-pads.html) to be able to use the 5.5" pads. I am interested in knowing if instead of also buying the 3" machine wouldn't it be a little better to get a 3" backing plate (http://www.autopia-carcare.com/lake-country-pads.html) and the 3.5" pads from griots? I see no reason to buy 2 machines but instead just use the one unit and change backing plate (http://www.autopia-carcare.com/lake-country-pads.html) when I wanted smaller pads.
Also I am reading mostly that users prefer the Lake Country pads over the Griots. Anyone with an opinion? Since LC does not have a 3.5" should I go up to a 3.5" backing pad to use a LC 4" pad?

I am just a weekend warrior trying to find a better/easier way to take care of 3 or 4 everyday drivers. This is the start up items that I was considering.

6" GG
5" LC backing plate
5.5" LC CCS pads
3" LC backing plate
3.5" Griots pads

How about recommendations on light cutting compounds, polishes, and waxes?

I use the 2 7/8 BP for use with 3" pads on my GG6 and it works great. The housing is a little bigger than the PC so just watch that you don't bump the paint with it when you're in a tight area. I use LC hydro tech pads, Meg's MF pads , tufbuf wool, scholl spider pads with this set up. It's a good idea to have an assortment of pads as to give you options.

That's a good combo. I like the 3.5" backing plate with the 4" Hydro Tech pads.

That is the way I would go. Or you can get the 2 7/8 LC backing plate for the 3" Pads. I have that for my PC 7424XP. But based on what you are doing that is the way to go.

I have the GG 3" and ever since I adapted my PC 7424XP that way the GG 3" is now a paperweight. No offense to the GG 3" it is good for applying an LSP...that is pretty much it. You have the right idea!!:props:

I have a 75mm (that's a a shade less than 3 inches) BP on the GG 6 for using the 4" meg's pads (burgundy/yellow/black). Works without any problems. Best used on narrow panels. Just keep an eye out for the metal housing on the GG.
