Hey guys, I'm cleaning some chrome wheels for my mother in law. After seeing the condition and the brake dust caked on the wheels i was slightly discouraged, but gave it a shot anyway. For the brake dust i used the meguiars dub wheel cleaner. Took most of the brake dust off and allowed me to follow up with mothers chrome polish. It really cleaned the barrels and face up nicely, but.... The terrible rust like pitting is still at the base of the windows and bars of the wheel. Here are some pics of the damage.

The rest of the barrel cleaned up well

Im thunking of using steel wool and metal polish [not chrome polish] to hit those areas. Idea's, tips, suggestions welcomed! Thanks

If it was me I would use a product called noxion(it's in a small green bottle) with an old rag or terry cloth for a bit of adhesive action and elbow grease if that dont help then get the wheels as perfect as you can and tell mother in law its better to have them refinish

There is nothing you can do to restore that chrome. It's pitted with what looks like rust. The only solution to bring the wheels back to a high level is to have them refinished.

I got all the gunk off the wheels (gray/brown/black stuff) and now all thats left is the pitting and at least now its shiny like the rest of the wheel, not perfect by any means but it looks way better! Just alot more elbow grease.
