So a buddy of mine just got a black 98 mustang. he hit me up for a wash n wax. I was gonna just wax it by hand the paint was oxidized and in bad shape. I decided to use some d151 and a blue hf pad. I was able to remove the oxidation and restore some shine up the paint doesnt feel mooth. I also noticed as I kept biffing the car my pad was turning black. Im guessing its a single stage paint job. What can I do to get it smooth to the touch Nd deep mirror like shine? Or am I wasting my time?

Since the Musting is a 1998 and you're finding it has single stage paint that's rough... sounds like an inexpensive repaint.

You could try using detail clay to a section you've buffed and then use the Baggie Test to see if there's any improvement.

You didn't say what compounds or polishes you're using but keep this in mind, single stage paints are porous and any product that uses inexpensive solvents like Stoddard Solvent will leach out any oils left in neglected single stage paint and dry them out.

So stick with reputable compounds and polishes.

How about a picture?

Did you clay before polishing?
