This vehicle was one of 2 that were being brought to me by the same couple. This is her vehicle, the one which transports their small children (I know from my own experience how messy that can be, LOL). There were some paint issues with this vehicle that made a 100% correction goal seem pointless. I was hoping to moderately improve this vehicle. In all honesty, I surprised myself with it and was very happy with some aggressive measures at how I was able to turn this chariot around.

Let's see the issues I'm referring to:

The left front fender had been painted. Badly. Boy, did it show. Look closely and you'll see the craters in the paint and the general dullness of it. Next time they should clean their roller better....

The wheels on this vehicle are THE most stupid design I have EVER seen! There is a ridge behind the face on the barrel that does nothing except trap water. Really? No bloody wonder the wheels are rusting out!!

There was going to be lots of touch ups on this one as well as this one large one:

The other big issue with this vehicle was the right rear door. Someone had keyed it in both directions in several places on the door:

A cleaner view of it:

Misc swirls:

Plus, there had been a baby bottle spilled in the back with the odour of sour milk added in...

First up was the wheels, tires and barrels.

The barrels were cleaned with Tarminator. The faces were cleaned with Megs WB followed by Zep Citrus. The wells were cleaned with LATA. The tires were cleaned with Zep 505.

It was then hand washed with DG 901 followed by a decontamination wash using IronX paste. It was brought inside and clayed and the wheels were blown off with the Master Blaster (the water in the wheels was bothering me).

Now it was time to play with some paint. There were some areas of rust and whatnot that made a 100% correction seem pointless. That said, a 2 step process of Flex 3401 + TB black wool + M105 was used first. Look at the crap that was collecting on the pad!!

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t12/rhowitt/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_5081.jpg (http://s156.photobucket.com/user/rhowitt/media/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_5081.jpg.html)

The second step was a white B/S pad + M205 + Flex 3401. DG Squeaky Clean was then used to ensure a proper bond with the Americoat that was going to be added later.

The LF fender with the crappy paint job was given a fast wet sand with Megs 3K grit sanding discs. The paint is so bad I didn't expect it to do much, but it made it better than I thought. The RR door with the key marks was given a 2 stage wet sanding using 1500 and 3K discs. Here is the door after being sanded:

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t12/rhowitt/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_5085.jpg (http://s156.photobucket.com/user/rhowitt/media/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_5085.jpg.html)

Here it is after the above mentioned 2 step process:

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t12/rhowitt/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_5086.jpg (http://s156.photobucket.com/user/rhowitt/media/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_5086.jpg.html)

Here is a 50/50 shot of the driver's door:

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t12/rhowitt/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_5079.jpg (http://s156.photobucket.com/user/rhowitt/media/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_5079.jpg.html)

Both sides done:

Tail lights needed some work:

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t12/rhowitt/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_5083.jpg (http://s156.photobucket.com/user/rhowitt/media/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_5083.jpg.html)

All done:

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t12/rhowitt/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_5084.jpg (http://s156.photobucket.com/user/rhowitt/media/Detailing%20shots/Detailing%20shots001/DSC_5084.jpg.html)

The complete vehicle got that 2 stage process + DG SC. The paint, glass, wheels and head and tail lights were all coated with Americoat. The windshield got DP glass coating. The tires were shot with Opti Bond @ 100% via my air gun.

The seats were cleaned with steam and Folex. The plastic was cleaned with a magic eraser soaked in OPC. The plastic was treated with UIGP. The glass was cleaned with KD cloth. The whole inside was well vacuumed out. The milk spill area was steam cleaned with the addition of Folex.

That one big chip on the LF fender filled in:

I know I shot a lot of pics, but I was very pleased at how this came out. Thanks for looking. Comments always welcomed.

Unfortunately I didn't get to see her. He brought the next car which was his 2014 ISF which I just posted.

What camera do you use?

How long did it take you from start to finish?

Bobby, thank you Sir! I have a Nikon D7100 and was using the stock 18-55 lens. I was using a tripod for the inside shots which is why they are so clear. I had locked in the ISO at 100 and let it shoot a longer duration.

That whole job I had completed in 16 hours. That was while still fighting my pneumonia.
