Just wanted to share something that happened last week.

One of my friends realized that I've been getting into quality car care and detailing lately, and asked if I could help her get some scratches out of her trunk lid. I said that I could try, but it depends on how deep they are. I asked if they were just swirl marks, RIDS (as I tried to describe RIDS to her), or something deeper.

She informed me that there was some kind of mark on her car, so she tried to "scrub" it. She forgot what the pad was called, so I was assuming maybe a magic eraser or something.... NOPE... A SCOURING PAD!!! She also has scratches on her windshield, because she used the pad to try to "scrub" adhesive residue from her city sticker with a scouring pad as well. I couldn't believe my ears.

I fear seeing these scratches in person... im thinking she may not have any clear coat left. 2007 Acura TSX... anyone know how the paint is on those cars???

I have a 2010 TSX. Soft and easy to correct. Hopefully it's correctable.

Just stick with foam pads and quality products, don't try to go after the deepest scratches in the paint.

After you remove all the shallow scratches and restore clarity and gloss to the finish the deeper scratches will stand out like a sore thumb and be a reminder to her to contact you before trying something like this again and might even turn into some referrals for you.

Thanks, guys. Hopefully I can get it done decently. I haven't started charging anyone yet, as I am still very new to detailing. I look at these friends vehicles as a chance to practice. Hopefully I'll be confident enough to start charging soon. :)
