•Although Vaseline has reached the same strata
as Duct Tape: Its use on a dash? :dunno:

•Robert Chesebrough, a Chemist and a dabbler in illumination oils, was the inventor of the "petroleum jelly" he named Vaseline.
-While walking the Pennsylvania oil fields he noticed a thick, dark goo on an oil pump’s joint, and he asked about. It was explained that:
-This wax-like gunk came up with the crude oil and collects on the rigging. It had to be cleaned off periodically, or it would 'gum-up' the works.
-Now although it would take a couple of years for him to find the processes to purify this deemed to be worthless gunk...
-He immediately made off with a bucket full of what was called by the riggers: "The Rod Wax"

Rod Wax?!?!
According to the rules: I have to let that one go.

Not good for future cleaning, tactile feel, or dashboard longevity me thinks.

Kind of along the lines of using WD-40 to cover up early clear coat failure.

I could only speculate as to how much dust this would attract, not to mention the beautiful smell (baking in the sun)
