My car is new so I've only used water once. I hosed it down on a light setting. I covered the alternator and air intake. I wouldn't feel comfortable using a pressure washer. Thats a lot of pressure on those little electrical connections.

Try reading this,

Apc, degreaser, low pressure rinse, tire/wheel well brush should do it. Obviously we do not all have the luxury of a Tornador.

When you rinse use the mist setting on your nozzle zero water pressure and does the job well. I dry with a electric leaf blower towel then start the engine and let it dry the rest up.

don't use your pressure washer to clean the engine bay. Not a good thing. Like others have said low water pressure, APC/degreaser, fender brush, and forced air to dry.

I always use my pressure washer 2700 psi. I use the white tip after spraying it down with Purple Power degreaser. Never had a problem. I always make sure the engine is warm before I start and just run the car while I'm washing the rest of it. Then just blow dry with air and spray on Megs Hyper Dressing 4:1.

What ever you do, don't use a power washer on your engine. You will force water in places it's not supposed to go and have problems afterwards.

There are tons of videos available on youtube on doing an engine wash.

The trick is to take your time, protect everything that should not get wet and use no pressure or very little pressure when using water on the engine.

can I use pressure washer on the car hood?

Yes on the hood as well as the rest of your cars external. Don't hold it to close and try to have at least a 45 degree angle if removing heavy dirt.

I have done it once to my Honda, I used a regular garden hose and nozzle. I used CG All clean and finished it with CG Silk Shine

my show car is going on 8 years old and have only wiped it down after washing the car.

for a dirty engine bay I have cleaned with engine running the whole time out of fear.

Customers, I tell them I don't clean engines. Not comfortable with the liability.

Wash engine bay? Only for 40+ years. Used pressure washers since they were invented and only twice had a no start. Sprayed inside of distributor cap(s) with WD-40, clipped it back on the distributor(s), started the car(s), and drove off.

One was an old Saab, the other was a '58 Ford Wagon. Any other questions?
