So my wife and I were sitting watching TV tonight and heard a loud bang. Couldn't quite tell where it came from but it sounded like something BIG fell. Started checking doors and opened the door to the garage and got hit with a wall of smoke and flames. Tried to reach in and open the garage doors but couldn't (too much heat and smoke). Slammed it shut, went outside and called 911. Opened the exterior door to the garage off my porch and hit it with my fire extinguisher. Was my detailing shelf, now laying across my wifes new Mustang and engulfed in flames. FD got there about 12 minutes after I called and finished pulling out the fire. Pulled the Mustang and my Focus out of the garage so they could ventilate. No damage to any vehicles; believe it or not! But I basically have no detailing stuff left. Much of it disintegrated. Oh; and just TODAY I got a new order of microfiber towels and some Griots Garage car wash soap.
Apparently a spark or smolder from a firework made it into the garage (was open earlier today while we were shooting of fireworks). That was hours ago but; that's what the FD says happened.
What a day!
Here's what I learned:
The fire department has really muddy boots. Just ask my carpets and hardwood floors.
Detailers Pro and Griots Garage products are pretty stinking durable! In the bottle they burn up; but in a garage hot enough to melt blinds and torch wooden stairs; GG windshield coating, and and DP paint sealant and DP paint coating still bead up just fine! I have NOTHING to wash our caked-in-ash cars (which came out without any damage!?!?); but I did hit them with the hose and the paint still beads and sheets. Gonna drive me insane with how filthy these cars are going to be for a while. My buckets and hose are all that survived; so I guess I'll get a hardware store wash mitt and some cheap soap somewhere and get them somewhat clean.
Phew!

This pic shows my car still beading/sheeting decently with DP paint coating on a filthy ash encrusted car!
