'Guide to A Showroom Shine'
vs
'The Art of Detailing'

Bought both (Art of Detailing signed by Mike), the DVD and Renny Doyle's book. Read 'Guide To A Showroom Shine' first, then read Renny's book (which is GREAT by the way), then picked up 'Art of Detailing' and begin reading and its almost a copy of 'Guide to a Showroom Shine'.

Whats the difference between the two?

Shouldn't there be a way for any/all:
Invaluable Addenda to the "old Book"---including the most present (Flex polishers and Nanoskin), and all future "set(s) of addenda"---to be printed/or-otherwise-presented in a separate 'supplemental publication' for purchase by:
The Detailing-information-gathering-Consumers (at a rate commensurate to the now smaller supplemental-offering)...
Instead of being faced with having to continually make purchases of the "newly revised Book editions"?

Just asking.

The second edition is an updated version of the first edition with more tools, products and techniques.

The first edition was primarily all about the proper way to detail the exterior of your car and focused primarily on the Porter Cable type of dual action polishers and of course that means any similar type tools, as in the Meguiar's G110v2, Griot's Garage Random Orbital Polisher, etc.

If you're going to get a copy then get the second edition it has the most information and covers more tools and techniques.

The second edition is also available as an ebook on the iBook Store and as an electronic book in PDF format for use on PC type computers.

The new book covers the Flex polishers and nanoskin.

Actually, it covers more than just the Flex polishers

It covers,

All Nanoskin products including the towels, wash mitts and pads
The Flex 3401
The Cyclo
Rotary Buffers

Plus tons of tips and techniques. I bought all the "car detailing how to books" that were on the market as a kid growing up and throughout my life and to be honest I never learned anything in the book that taught me how to work on paint in the garage.

I think part of the reason for this is because most books are written by Professional Writers while my book comes at you from a detailer's point of view.

Reading through my how-to book is like a taste of what it's like to go through my boot camp class as my class is an information overload.

I tell people all the time if they read my book from cover to cover they'll know more than most detailers because most detailers are self-taught. I've been working in this industry all my life now, including 11 years total with Meguiar's working first as an outside sales rep and trainer. Then as the Corporate Writer followed by 6 years as the Instructor for all their Saturday classes, TNOG's, Roadshow classes, Extreme Makeovers etc.

Now I have 5 years here at Autogeek doing pretty much the same thing I did for Meguiar's but pumping out even more information at a faster rate than ever before.

My background is more varied than anyone else working any type of job even remotely close to what I do. I typed out a brief summary of my background on page two of this thread.

Calling Mike Phillips (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/auto-detailing-101/81937-calling-mike-phillps-2.html)

I've been teaching people how to polish paint since the Porter Cable was introduced to the paint polishing world, that's a lot of people and anyone that's ever taught any type of class knows that when you teach, you also learn, so I've done a lot of learning.

Both the first edition and the second edition are good in that they are in-depth and packed full of information that will help you get the results you're looking for the first time while avoiding mistakes.

I explain things in a way that not only tells you what to do by why you're doing it.

The first chapter I wrote is the most important chapter in my opinion because in the first chapter I explain "Car Paint History" and the points I make in the chapter sets you up to understand everything else covered in the book after Chapter 1.

There are a number of schools that use my how-to book as a course manual. There are detail shops that use it as a training manual and I've met one detail shop owner that gives new employees a test after reading my book to check their comprehension for the job they're about to undertake.

It's a great book and I worked very hard writing it and I'm happy to say that I get a lot of PM's from people telling me how much they learned from the book after reading it. Once in a while these people will post their thoughts on the pubic side of the forum instead of sending it to me in a PM. I much prefer people to post their opinion on the public side of the forum because when you send it to me only one set of eyeballs see what you've written and it's much more powerful for the world to read your opinion on my book than it is for me to read it.

For anyone reading this thread into the future, if you don't have a copy, get one and read it. I know you'll love it.
