Just finished up a 2 day detail on a friends Camaro, was in decently bad shape before and it ended up coming out better than new I think.

Some dirty before shots:

And the worst part of the detail, driving is back to my place at 10km/h down gravel.

Poor sales. At the time GM was really going through some bad times and bad management (not that its much better now). I think there was also maybe a labor dispute with the union at the plant in Canada. Rather than redesign a new car, they just discontinued it. I think also that space age styling was a turnoff, as well as the perception of poor quality, and poor interior comfort. For its time it was a heavy car, gasp (3300lbs compared to the current generation which weighs 3800lbs), but it outperformed the Mustang. Ironically I think the styling has aged extremely well, and while it may not have been appreciated at the time, it looks great now.

Took years of watching the Mustang dominate that category and loyal Chevy fans to persuade GM to bring the Camaro back and in 2010 it made its return (and it has outsold, if just barely, the Mustang ever since).

New Mustang comes out this year, an all new Camaro next year, Pony wars continue on!

Nice job on that Camaro, guess in those parts thats a car that only comes out in the summer?

I have one too!

Probably poor sales and the cost of developing a new car in what they perceived to be a decreasing segment.

The current design was based on an existing platform from the Holden subsidary I beleive. They went modern retro to answer to the Mustangs modern retro design.

The next gen Camaro will be based on the new platform being used by the Cadillac ATS and CTS which means it should be much lighter as those two cars are some of the lightest in their respective classes. Considering rumors that the new mustang got heavier, that could be a significant advantage in performance to the Camaro which has always been heavier than the mustang :)

The newer cars are heavier than third Gens.
The answer to my question is...Side impact laws on the doors and Chevy was caught off guard.
What group of people designed the four Gen. Camaro.
The answer will surprise you.

Thanks for the compliments guys, I really appreciate it. My buddy helped tackle this with me as he was wanting learn detailing more and definitely wanted to help on his own car.

His method:

PC 7424
Hydrotech blue w/HD Cut
Hydrotech orange w/SF4000

My method, including pillars:

Rupes 15
B&S orange w/FG400
B&S white w/SF4000

Then topped with Menzerna Power Lock and Menzerna Color Lock.

I enjoyed the thread jack too, haha.
