2014 Ferarri 458 Spider - Presidential Automotive Detailing - FL

Please excuse me as Im a little rusty on my write-ups! After about a year waiting for this car to arrive, I finally got a phone call, but the call I got wasnt a good one. Somewhere along the way, the car had been "detailed" before the owner took delivery. Unfortunately, this meant there were buffer "holograms" present throughout the entire cars paint finish. To make things worse, every crevice was caked with white wax/polish residue and every vent had overspray with polish from someone who is inexperienced or in huge rush to get it done. Either way, the owner wasnt happy with what he saw and immediately had me come out to make his brand new 458 look the way it should.

Large amounts of polish sling in all vents. Customer actually had Ferrari dealer take apart the entire rear section of car to be able to gain access to this area. Hopefully they have learned their lesson.

May I ask; was the 'detailer' a big shop, local guy, dealer?? Just curious. I mean I sometimes get wax where I shouldn't and even some polish sling now and then on my own vehicles (I don't detail professionally). Though of course I clean it up (never fails I realize where I forgot to tape once I've made a mess). But even I, being a pretty mediocre detailer working on my own cars in the garage, don't make stuff look that bad. And if I was working on a car like that!? I just can't imagine being so careless. The holograms are one thing; but the sling and wax in crevices is just a pure lack of care and detail.

That doesn't surprise me.

My sisters boyfriend works at a high end dealership. They sell a number of high end brands including Ferrari, Bentley, Porsche, etc. He's 20 years old and just got his two-year mechanics certificate and is working there as a Porsche technician; and they have two "porters" (car wash guys); one is a teenage high school student who does it in the evenings for minimum wage and the other is an older guy who got laid off and was looking for a job and they pay him a little above minimum wage. T-shirt rags, one greasy bucket, throws the wash mitts on the ground and uses the same mitt over and over; everything you can imagine.

From what I can tell, having a few family members work at various dealerships (everywhere from bargain lots to high-end auto lots); there really isn't much of a difference between any of them; except of course for the 'corporate' differences. It seems like no matter if it's a $3500 used Toyota or a $350,000 italian thoroughbred; it's probably going to be 'detailed' using cheap products by a poorly qualified, low-paid "car wash guy". The market doesn't demand much more. Why pay a lot for exceptional car care when nearly all of your customers won't notice the difference and those who will have grown to accept it?
