Used 4* clay the other day on a black Durango and it marred the paint a little. I was polishing anyways, so it wasnt a HUGE deal. But I dont like inducing more imperfections then whats already there. I understand sometimes you NEED to use a harsh clay though.

BUT anyways, I was wondering if anyone has used the Clay Magic bar? Looking for a cheaper alternative to my Mothers Clay.

I just used Clay Magic on my wifes car and it worked really nice, but it's the only clay I've ever used.

The CM blue found in stores isn't that great either... it is really sticky and breaks apart... I have seen pictures of the CM blue being really elastic ... which can't be the OTC blue because it's still junk, imo.

Can you recommend something that isnt junk? I really like Mothers. It isnt as strong as 4*, but it doesnt break apart at all and isnt sticky as long as your hands are a little wet.

the clay magic blue actually works very well...just use a designated clay lube or quick detailer...using car soap degrades clay bars...the cleaners in soaps cause clay to fall apart...also the meguiars smooth surface kit is an excellent mild/medium clay that is somewhat elastic and leaves no marring....

I like the CM blue.. Its nothing like the 'old' clay we used to get, but I like it best out of the OTC stuff. As mentioned, it is very sticky. Havent had any problems with it falling apart though. The megs is okay, but doesn't have enough bite for me. At the same time, you wont get any marring with it. Just alot of extra rubbing time vs. the CM blue, especially on a dirty vehicle that hasn't been polished before.. Time wasted IMO, unless you dont plan on polishing.

Marring the paint is/are dependable on the cars CC, if its soft you may marr. I mared the H##l out of a black Bimmer some monts ago, and i was NOT supose to polish it afters (found out about the marring 11 o`clock at night, and the car was beeing deliverd that same day Doooh)

I find the Megs gray clay is very mild, almost like the Pinnacle poly clay.

Yeah, I understand that. Mothers wont marr even Honda clear. 4* marred a Durango. So Im looking for something similar to Mothers, but cheaper. A 100g CM bar is only $10. I could get two of those for the price of one Mothers kit.

I just dont understand how that is possible. Ive been using CM blue for YEARS and is all i will use becuase of how elastic, plyable, affordable and effective it is. It has never ever ever ever looked like your pic. Even after 20+ cars my CM clay always looks like the first pic.

Are you using QD for your lube? Ive never used carwash with clay and dont know what it would do to it.

Budman3..The clay pic above yours looks to be a different color..more green then blue..even the appearence of the two look different..are you positive their the same clay..

That green clay looks to me like Pinnacle Ultra poly clay. No wonder it is so elastic. Not sure about that Blue clay, but looks like its degrading and falling apart. maybe it's too old, or maybe soap was used instead of clay lubricant.
