Looks to me like they are testing the lifespan of the motor, bearings, brushes, etc..

Since all the good guesses are used - noise emissions

to be more accurate, since they are on the floor attached to racks, they are probably doing some kind of drop tests along with motor testing/energy consumption testing

Heat test to determine maximum surface temperature when turned on for a lengthy time.

I would think fatigue testing of any sort might include nominal working pressure on the head. Maybe a "let's see when they fail via customer use". Those machines are simply suspended with nylon looking wire ties. If turned on i would expect some wild vibration variances.

So what are you suggesting Puckman? Basically, dunno but would lean towards vibration variations through various speed settings. Seeing as that's already been suggested, not going for the prize! Just a guess.

They are obviously testing tie straps.

How long the motors will run in a suspended, free-air environment?
That or "loudness". ;)

And of course zip tie testing. :D

All the good guess already said... so just giving a shot but maybe giving a last test (balance, noise, vib, oil leaks) before packing it and shipping it to the customer

I think it is testing polishing action. Just a guess. 😎

Since most of the good guesses are taken...RPM test?

Wow!

Lots of great guesses and the right guess has been posted multiple times. The person that posted it first will win the prize.

I'll go see what Nick has on his desk and sometime today I'll post who the winner is and we'll get their address and ship them their prize.

At the time I'm posting this reply this thread has 1,250 views. On my Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Mike.Phillips.Autogeek) it has almost 4000 veiws!

Always interesting....

It is testing the ergonomics and user-friendliness of the polisher. This is a combination of numerous things - balance, vibration, stability, weight distribution to name a few.
