How do I fixed this chipped paint? [pics]

I'm thinking about sanding it down and then using spray paint and primer. Then wet sanding to blend it then hit it with some clear coat. I'll finish it off with compound.

Is this a good idea for paint chips or should I use a filler pin?

Been typing this for years now... here it is again....


You can make rock chip repair or touch-up paint repair as complicated or as simple as you want. Often times more and more work doesn't always equal better and better results.


Either get some touch up paint and a fine tipped artist paint brush at the Hobby Lobby and dab some paint into the chipped areas or get the Dr. Color Chip kit.


What does the rest of the vehicle look like?

The rest of the car looks okay. The rear bumper has some dings but it nothing that isn't an easy fix. I can take more pictures. I figured spray paint was easier to work with.

Using spray paint to re-paint a section of a panel or an entire panel and make it match the original paint and look good, (that's two things), is more difficult than you think.

You can get most PBE stores to mix you some custom paint in an aerosol can, maybe check with the PBE store in your home town.

PBE Store = The store that sells all your local body shops their paint supplies. Most towns with enough people to support a couple of body shops and a couple of new and used car dealerships will have a PBE store.

Spray paint? No no.... touch up paint, yes yes. Apply a few layers and then polish off the bumps as best as u can

Both roughing up the chipped area and cleaning it really well will help the touch-up paint adhere as well as prevent rust.

Use a small piece of sandpaper or even a scotch-brite pad and then rub with some Isopropyl Alcohol then dab in some touch up paint.

^^ True.. in this case however it is a plastic bumper so no worries about rust OP.

OP you can make this look at least 50% better if you follow the directions. good luck!

Thanks for the help and advice, guys. This paint defect has been bothering for a while and now I can fix it. Hope for good results. :D
