Wheels - STONG Cleaners

So today I had a pretty nasty set of wheels on a 2008 Accord. I use
Meguiar’s D108 Super Degreaser diluted 4:1, but it just wasn't touching it. I briefly worked at a shop that had a clear "acid" that was to only be used on the wheel barrels and inner fenders. It worked pretty well. Other then not diluting the Megs 108 Super Degreaser, does anyone have a good chemical they use on REALLY nasty wheels??

iron-x, sonax full effect or sonax wheel cleaner plus. i havent tried the sonax plus, but i do use both the iron-x and sonax FE and they have both worked really good for me.

Meg's wheel bright is a really strong acid. Works well, but pretty toxic. Use only for serious jobs and use gloves and stay away from fumes. It's nasty stuff.

D140 is not strong compared to some of the other stuff out there, but for most people, it's definitely a step-up compared to what's normally available.

yet do not ever think that it's benign!
{It's not really a step up, IMHO.}

•Wheel cleaners like Malco Brake-Off:
Sodium hydroxide; pH>12.5... :eek:

•And:
-Type of wheel most often determines type of wheel cleaner.
-Brake dust builds up in layers. Removal is layer by layer.
May take more than a "spray & rinse" procedure.

I forgot to mention that I also used Trix (seems to be a tad stronger then Iron-x in my opinion) and went over the wheels twice very thoroughly before applying the Trix.

Is the Megs D140 any stronger then just using their D108 Super degreaser undiluted? I'll definitely look into the Malco Bake-off. Thanks!

Another vote for meguiars wheel brightner though I will try to see if Undilluted apc and sonax or iron-x will even touch it first

That's an apples-to-oranges comparison. The D108 is a caustic surfactant-based cleaner, which cleans by separating the dirt from the wheel (as best it can).

D140 is an ammonium bifluoride-based cleaner, which means it uses hydrofluoric acid to dissolve the metallic contamination on the wheel.

Flitz Pre-Clean works well. Bottle says can't be used on paint but website says OK?? Tried on bad winter dirt on Alloy rim and stuff just melted off. Need to agitate with nylon brush (used toothbrush) to get all the crud off. Best I have seen so far.

Wheel bright works. This was just spray and rinse with a power washer. However, wear gloves, safety glasses, and something to cover your mouth and nose.

For wheels that are hammered, iron x is your best bet. I let dwell as long as possible from the top down, and just as its about to dry I start to scrub. For a dilutable product, take a look at brown royal wheel cleaner
