Like so many other detailers out there I’ve bought and tried a lot of trim products that make the claim of being a restorer only to find out the claims have almost always fallen short. I say almost always because recently I used Solution Finish Trim Restorer and was very impressed with the product. Most trim products are either greasy and wash off with the first rain or car wash or dry without a greasy feel but last only a month or so. Solution Finish has solved all of those problems it’s neither greasy or will fade away in a short amount of time. Solution Finish dries to the touch and leaves a nice glossy finish without the wet greasy look of other silicone based products.
To test this I applied Solution Finish to a trim panel and then washed it with a very strong concentration of APC, while it did lose a small amount of gloss the deep rich black color remained. So it should be able to handle quite a few automatic car washes without a problem.
Application couldn’t be easier. Simply rub a small amount of product onto the trim piece, allow the product to set a few minutes and wipe off the excess. That’s it!

So what is Solution Finish? From their website.
Solution Finish is an incredible new product that restores originally black surfaces to a deep, rich black with-out the"wet look" shine that dries quickly with no greasy residue.
Our unique formula combines ancient ingredients with advanced polymer technology to provide a spectacular long-lasting, glossy black protective finish. Formulated for professional use, it is a silicone-free solution that uses all natural oils and is VOC compliant.

What is Solution Finish?

Solution Finish is an incredible new product that restores originally black surfaces to a deep, rich black finish, without the "wet look". Solution Finish dries quickly with no greasy residue. Our unique formula combines ancient ingredients with advanced polymer technology to provide a spectacular long-lasting, black protective finish. Formulated for professional use only, it is a silicone-free solution that uses all natural oils and is VOC compliant.

What does Solution Finish do, and where can I use it?

If it's made of black plastic or vinyl, Solution Finish will make it look "better than new". Use it to restore, condition and protect any originally black surfaces on cars and trucks, boats, recreational vehicles, golf carts, motorcycles, snowmobiles, and all types of equipment. Solution Finish is ideal for use on bumpers, pads and trim, mirrors, mud flaps, window trim, seals, running boards, truck bed caps and covers, handles and wiper blades, and essentially all black trim. No masking is required.

How does Solution Finish work?

Solution Finish first dissolves the existing oxidation. Then, with a patented process, it puts a black carbon into the surface you're treating and locks in a chemical to prevent further oxidation.

How long does a bottle of Solution Finish last?

The shelf life of a bottle has been shown to remain effective up to three years in a sealed container. However, it is recommended that Solution Finish be used within 12 to 14 months of purchase.

How do you apply Solution Finish?

The Solution Finish application is a two step process. First, you put a small amount of Solution Finish on a microfiber sponge, and apply it evenly to the surface being treated. Then, with a clean microfiber sponge or microfiber towel, wipe off and buff the surface product that is remaining. Please note that every package of Solution Finish includes written instructions to be followed for best results (you can also visit our web site for a video demonstration).

Will Solution Finish work on gray trim?

Solution Finish does work great on gray and charcoal colored trim, but please note: The trim will remain gray, but will be two or three shades darker.

Will Solution Finish work on all rubber, vinyl and plastic?

With over 50,000 combinations of rubber, vinyl and plastic combinations it's impossible to know if Solution Finish will work on everything. However, in our experience, Solution Finish has worked extremely well on all vehicles and parts tested. We believe it would be very difficult to find a situation where Solution Finish will not exceed your expectations.

What makes Solution Finish unique to all other trim products?

Solution Finish is the only product of its kind on the market that actually is absorbed by the part being treated; all the other products are silicone-based, which is only a surface "Band-Aid". Solution Finish completely restores, conditions and protects in a way no silicone-based product can. In addition, it is the only product that thoroughly dries and does not leave a greasy silicone residue.

Will Solution Finish harm my paint, chrome or windows?

No, Solution Finish only works on what it's supposed to. If you do get Solution Finish on your paint, glass or chrome, simply wipe it off with a towel; if it dries before you wipe it off, it can easily be removed with a glass cleaner (Windex, Simple Green or comparable cleaning solution) and towel. However, please note that Solution Finish will stain any paint that is fresh or has not been sealed, and will also stain clothing.

How much Solution Finish does it take to do a passenger car?

The rule of thumb is a 1 ounce bottle of Solution Finish applied properly will complete three full-size passenger vehicles.
This truck I recently used Solution Finish on.

In conclusion
Pros:
Very easy product to work with.
A little goes a long way.
Delivers as advertised.

Cons
A little messy but cleans up easily.
A flip top cap on the bottles would be nice.

Thanks for viewing my review hope you find it helpful.

I met Chris West in person and he is a great guy and instructed me on how to use Solution Finish for the Frontier truck in person.

That same day a Meguiar's guy (shall remain nameless on purpose lol) said (not exact words) "you know.. I know I work for Meguiar's but Solution Finish works great..." something like that,

I didn't write down the exact conversation so bare with me everyone lol, I still have to do the trim, bumper and flares on the truck but the small area I did worked great!

I bought a new camera so just waiting for it to get here and will try to implement it in my upcoming videos.

SF does work well as a trim restorer on oxidized trim. It's best for trim that is pretty faded. I found if the trim isn't faded - it doesn't last long.

Nice review and pics.

Solution Finish is a fantastic product especially suited for black or gray plastics. An outstanding review and photo documentation.....:props:

Thanks for the review Ron. Got some sitting on the bench and waiting for a chance to give it a try. Do you think it would work on the Line-X type of bed liner in that Ford truck ?

Great review! Thanks for putting it together and sharing. It looks like it did a great job. I have used CarPro DLux and GTechniq C4, and thought they worked really well. Have you used any of the other "permanent" products and they haven't lived up to the hype? Or just dressings that promised months and gave weeks?

Thanks and happy detailing!

I have used Solution Finish and was also very pleased with the results.

I use DLUX most commonly, and it is AMAZING! (have it on my personal vehicle... 1 year now, still looks new and beads water like crazy)

... but for those that do not want to pay for a 'trim coating' I reach for Solution finish now :)

I've never met Chris myself but have had a few phone conversations with him about his product and yes he's super nice humble guy.

PThank you! Part of the reason for your findings maybe because of the way the product is designed to work and newer trim doesn't lend itself to the process.

I don't know why it wouldn't Paul. It's also not designed for painted surfaces but if they are oxidized bad enough it works on those also. Spreading it out may be a bit challenging though as rough as they are. What I found best on the more textured surfaces was to use a 1" boars hair paint brush to apply it. A brush like this or one for polishing shoes would probably work just fine. RaggTopp Natural Horse Hair Convertible Top Brush, RaggTopp brush, clean convertible top, vinyl brush (http://www.autogeek.net/convertible-top-brush.html)

Thank you :xyxthumbs: To be honest no I haven't, for the price of admission I never wanted to test the waters. Of the products you mentioned one is 3X the cost of SF and the other is 4X's but they are also both claimed to be semi and permanent coatings. I am basing my opinion on the latter. But not all of them were dressings 1 in particular is a newer version that is sold as a trim restorer that lasted only 2 weeks on my personal truck. On newer trim the products you mentioned may very well be the best product to use but on badly faded neglected trim for the money this is the one to use. IMO.

Dlux is as advertised on trim. My entire cars trim, rubber, plastic etc is coated in Dlux and it easily lasted a year. And I love seeing the water bead even on plastic!
