So I really want to purchase a tornado right now I just have foam gun... wondering what's the best compressed air generator I could get to use the tornado and if it's worth the investment. Mind you I am not a professional detailer. I do it mostly for a calming effect and love clean rides with perfect paint lol. But I do clean detail family and friends cars all the time. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance

An air compressor is a very useful tool.

Apart from inflating tires, you can run die grinders, da buffers, impact wrenches, and so on. An air compressor is worth having. Of course if you get one it needs to be powerful enough to run all the tools you want to use.

I have a 5.5HP or so 30gal unit from Sears, I've had it probably 15 years, delivers like 9cfm at 90PSI or something, I wanted something big enough to run a paint gun at the time. Has served me well, was around 3-400 back then.

Dear Friends

Based on my vague recollection, the Tornador foam gun has high CFM requirements. I recall that my 21-gallon, 2.5HP Harbor Freight compressor is a little too light to do a good job with the Tornador foam gun.

I believe the Tornador foam gun would be a great tool if the person has a strong-enough compressor. The advantage, based on what I saw on YouTube, would be a drier foam with a longer dwell/hang time.

I'm not interested enough in the Tornador foam gun to purchase another compressor just for it. My Generac 3100PSI gas washer and an MTM Hydro foam cannon are a pretty good combination, especially when using Chemical Guys's Honeydew Snow Foam soap.

By the way, my compressor runs the Tornador Black just fine.

The Tornador definitely produces a much drier foam which has a higher soap content than a foam gun does. There is therefore much longer dwell time. It also is great for interior shampooing, which is not something you would use a foam gun for. It works also for wheel cleaning chemicals.

my compressor is a 33gal craftsman, has 5.7 cfm at 90 psi i believe which is plenty to run the foam gun for long duration.

you don't need to run it at 90 psi all the time, you could realistically run it at 40-50 no problem and use a smaller compressor. i find you can get the same foam out of it, just slower when you use less air anyway.

most people with garage and tools have some form of air compressor, and unless you are planning on holding the trigger for 10 minutes straight, most should handle the job. besides, if you buy the actual tornador gun it has a flow control on the handle to allow you to turn down your air a bit and restrict the flow to find the sweet spot for what you're shooting.
