I have been working at compounding certain sections of my car. Today, the roof needed it badly. I got one half to look almost 100 percent, but this half, well its hard. I have a certain section that I dont know if its a messed up paint section or just dried on wax or compound, help here would be appreciated

need a better photo really bud, very difficult to tell from that. if it is dried on wax or compound, then claying should start to remove it. if it doesn't, try the clearcoat failure test (hopefully someone can post a link). if the clearcoat is intact but clay won't remove it then try polishing a small area by hand to see if you can get an improvement.

will do, I dont thinks its clear failure as there is not any paint around it starting to flake. I will try a clay bar next and see what that does. If that does not work, I will go more direct with a hand work in

yea the pic is bad. need a larger up close one.
If compounding didnt help at all i might think its a problem with the clear coat but wait to see what others say here

the paint will actually just dull initially with clearcoat failure, flaking comes later (generally speaking). hopefully its something that clay will remove :xyxthumbs:

If its dried wax or compound try swiping it to see if it remove anything if not then try a little bit of compound to see if it will remove that haze

Isn't anyone going to ask Bill what compound he was using and how he was applying it?

I was using meguiars pink correction compound (D300) on a red cutting pad on speed 5. Not heavy pressure, just a little to control the machine. I did about 6 passes in each direction

Ok...red cutting pad...is that a Meg's Soft Buff? Original or 2.0? Diameter? Machine?

Edit: or by red cutting pad do you mean the microfiber compounding disc?

Well, that's pretty aggressive, but you should have pretty hard paint on that car. Maybe if you get us more of a closeup pic we can give you a better diagnosis. It mostly looks great, though.

correct, the paint is a pain in the butt. The section behind the sunroof came out much better than I expected. The section in front, not so much

5 may be a bit fast, I've found 4-4.5 works best with the D300 and the cutting pads. Too much heat really affects them a lot more than regular foam pads.

I have noticed this, m105 can handle more heat than d300, I will try speed 4 next go
