What's the best way to get paste wax on to a Da 5.5 pad?

1) Knock it out of the container if possible.

2) If it won't come out of the jar I use a small spatula and scoop a little out and put it on the pad.

Butter knife (not your wife's grandmother's silver...ask me how I know).

Actually I just use a popsicle stick or tongue depressor (you get these when the Dr. isn't looking).

if you have a 3" DA backing plate, you can use 3"-4" pads to get inside or swipe inside the paste container as well.. .

With a paste wax (soft) us a 3" or 4" pad that can fit in the jar. Blip the trigger and you will get some wax on the pad.

If it is hard wax just tap the bottom of the jar upside down (on the pad). The wax should drop on the pad and you blip the trigger.

If the jar is too small just use a butter knife and spread it like butter on bread (not too much). Or if you hands are clean use your finger and dab it on.

Once you get used to this procedure you will probably not want to wax by hand/foam again.

Additionally, the speed setting for the DA should be:

Flex 3401 VRG Speed setting 1.5 - 2 (max)

PC 7424 XP: Speed setting 2.5 - 3 (max)

Griot's 3" DA: Speed setting 2.5 - 3 (max)

At least this is the speed setting I use.

I cannot say for a Rupes or any other DA as I have not used them.

I like the Red Pad or Gold jeweling pad (my favorite) to apply wax.

Just don't drop it on the floor when you knock it out of the tin, the expensive waxes always just pop out of the tin especially for this purpose, the cheaper waxes never come out of the tin.

When spreading the wax on the pad with some sort of tool, do you prime the pad first with some sort of product?

Also, when applying the past to the pad do you just put a lump of it in one place and let the action of the DA spread it out, or do you have some technique to get the paste all over the pad?

I'm playing with the idea of using some sort of wax on my car in the summer so I can see what it would do on black paint, but I enjoy the ease of applying a LSP with a DA.

You are correct. You just do a quick spray with any QD. I prefer that over spray wax because you are putting on the wax anyways. I like Blackfire Wet Diamond Polymer spray. It helps spread the wax.

As for spreading the wax just put a small amount on the pad. Prime the pad with wax it will be real easy once you get the hang of it

As I said previous I like the Red pads and the gold pads for application.
