I bought LC 3 inch backing plate, did I need to buy the 3 1/2 inch for my Griots 3 inch. Once I have proper plate what would be the best pads

I never bought another backing plate for mine one on it is fine. I tried foam pads at first and it kust doesn't have enough power for correction or polishing for foam. I personally think it works best with microfiber pads. I use it with meguiars and lcc microfiber pads with great results. Now if your using it to spread wax or sealant like a lot of people do you'll want black or red pads for that.

I'll try micro fiber then. Would spotbuffs be ok

I agree with microfiber pads. The spot buffs are too bulky IMHO, the 3" griots doesn't have enough power to spin them effectively. You could also use the 7/8" hydro tech pads if you want to go foam.

Go with the MF pads for the GG3". It will get the the most cut possible that you can get.
