I am preparing to apply CQUK to my daughters 2014 VW Jetta tomorrow.

Today I washed, IronX'd, and clayed.

It was really interesting seeing what the IronX does on a white car.

First time using IronX. I used about two thirds of the bottle.

Did I use too much?

Yeah, I guess that would help... It was the .5L bottle (16.9oz).

Forgive me for the noob question, but I've come across many posts that talk about iron X. Some people use it on wheels, sold use it on paint, what I want to know is what does it really do, and is there any additional benefits vs just a clay bar

Here's its description:
Iron X Iron Remover, CQuartz IronX, Paint Cleaner, paint decontamination (http://www.autogeek.net/carpro-iron-x-cleaner.html)

I see. Thank you for the link.
So it basically removes iron containing particles underneath the surface that a clay bar would not be able to remove. I think I will try it in the future, but right now I have my tuition to worry about :p

I usually use about that much, maybe a little less, when using the bottle.

Switching to a pressurized sprayer really helped. I use less product and it distributes more evenly.

I used a bunch myself. Same size bottle, used just more than half, ordered ferrous dueller to try next

You probably didn't use too much with the spray-on technique.

What I do is spray panel by panel, wait 30 seconds, and then spread it with a microfiber applicator. This, to me, helps me believe I am not wasting product. If some panels show a lot of bleeding I may spray a little more on if my gut says it will help.

I like paste myself or gel I think.

Using this technique suggested by Corey from CarPro I can usually do 3 midsized cars with a 16 oz bottle:

"2.-You can cover the surface with Iron X by spraying it everywhere but that can be wasteful. I recommend that you spray as needed and spread it with a small sponge or applicator to cover the entire surface. In any case evenly cover the surfaces you wish to decontaminate. The product is strong so you don’t have to be wasteful. Just make sure it contacts the entire surface."

Then let it dwell and agitate like you normally would.

I didn't like ferrous dueller. 1)The sprayer sucks on it, 2)with half the bottle left it foamed up solid just from normal use and then it wouldn't spray, 3) It is impossible to use the whole bottle of product due to it foaming and the sprayer sucking.

Ferrous dueller was the first iron decon product I had and I bought Iron-X this time. Haven't used Iron-X to compare against, but might today.

I used 3/4 of the small bottle on my Toyota Camry btw. Hope you like it more than me!

This is spot on! Use gloves before that too.

Thanks. Good info. Just wish I knew that earlier!
