(and I realize this is "crazy talk" to 99% of the population)

If not, what do you do to maintain these surfaces, if anything?

And on a related note, when people apply coatings, do you apply the coating to these surfaces?

I use sealant on mine but only once a year. Makes it easier to dry more than anything

No. Just clean with a waterless wash every wash. So, they stay pretty clean.

Just a quick wipe down after washes to keep it clean and take care of potential water spots. Hit it with Chemical Guys V7 on occasion.

Some areas in the door jam is hard to reach. Using a brush to clean works, but trying to buff these areas are a challenge. Using Aqua Wax which dries clear solves this problem.

I use spray wax on for door jams on every car i do. Or i use microfibers to polish off the wax on the car itself and then use those same rags to then wipe the jam, still works quite well.

Yes...
I invariably apply Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant (WGDGPS) to those areas.

Here's a couple of photos of the inner hood;
Kinda sorta of the trunk/hatch;
No jambs photos---but WGDGPS is always present.
