Old man winter appears to finally have been booted from Minnesota although there was still frost on my roof this morning. Drew was also kind enough to send me a sample of Protowax 93 that I was itching to try out. So it was time for a quick detail of the S6.

This is my wife's car (and pretty rare in the US, 1120 imported) so the only time it is used as a test platform is for the highest quality stuff I try; naturally it would get treated to Protowax 93.

Process/Products:
Wheels - Dub wheel cleaner & Permanon Platinum (already opti-coated)
Tires - Meg's Super Degreaser & CG Silk Shine
Foam Prewash - CG CW+G and Ultimate Snow Foam
2BM - CG Citrus Wash Clear
Tar Decon - Tarminator
Clay Decon - PB spray & wipe with speedy prep towel
Glass - Fast glass towel
LSP - Son1cwax Protowax 93
Trim - Already coated with Gtech C4 or OC 2.0
Grilles & wheel wells - Maxima SC-1

Son1cwax Protowax 93 Review:

First I want to thank Drew for the wax. I received this wax at no charge, but did not explicitly agree to write a review in exchange. However I do feel some obligation to return the favor, I will keep this review as unbiased as I can.

Upon first opening the pot, I knew the smell from childhood. The wife and I debated whether it was strawberry or cherry starburst candy. Maybe the pink color through me off, so I said it was strawberry. After purchasing some starburst (strictly for testing purposes) we determined it is more akin to cherry starburst. The smell does change a little bit while applying the wax, it may just be a matter of letting it breathe, but the fruitiness does deaden a little in favor of a smell that's hard to describe other than 'the starburst wrapper', not bad, just slightly different. However, after coming back home from dinner tonight I could still smell starburst in my garage, which is just awesome. I can seriously see customers asking to have that smell IN their car, not just ON their car.

To me, it behaves like a soft wax when in the pot; it yields immediately on contact and picks up easily onto a foam applicator (zymol-esque). It did take a little longer than I expected to get the applicator fully loaded with product; in this respect, it behaved more like a hard wax. It spreads very easily with foam, but I did get some high spots (more on that in a moment). I tried both WOWO and allowing it to haze. WOWO was a little easier to remove, but the haze was not difficult at all. It is not the easiest product to remove, but it certainly is not hard. For application I found the best technique for me was the same I use with Zymol: Apply to foam, rub foam gently against the palm of your hand to heat wax slightly, then apply to paint.

I did have a couple high spots at the beginning from over application/trying to load up the applicator. When buffing these off, I did get a couple small dots on the paint that did not come off as easily as the rest of the wax. It only took a couple more wipes to get them off, but it is something to watch for if you over apply. Once I hit my stride, the wax went on very easily and evenly. I then proceeded to way over apply on one panel and let it sit for about an hour - it was still relatively easy to remove. No streaks, no ghosting, just a few stubborn dots.

I did not find it immediately slick after buffing, but when I checked again in a few hours, it was super slick. I know I've seen this behavior before, but I can't remember what product it was.

The car sat outside for a few hours on a windy evening and I found very little dust on the car, certainly not conclusive, but I would have expected more dust attraction from a typical wax.

I should be able to follow-up with some beading shots tomorrow and would like to report in the future on durability if I can keep myself from topping it with every spray wax on the market.

Pros:
ease of use
smell
minimal dust attraction initially
flexibility in application (WOWO vs haze)

Cons:
Loading up a foam applicator took a little longer than with other soft waxes I've used.
Some small residual dots were more difficult to remove if over applied
No instant gratification from super slick surface immediately after application.

Just a couple photos of the finished product.

Audi/Dubber guys (and maybe some others) should be able to tell what type of wheels are on the sedan in the reflection.....60 feet away.

Sounds like you had a great time even if you had some hard moments you would not be able to tell that cause the finish product looks great

Thanks. I make things a little hard on myself. When I'm trying a new product, I attempt to apply it correctly, then I attempt to muck it up and see how forgiving it is and how far I can stray from the recommendations and still get the same results. PW93 was very forgiving with the exception of the residual dots of dried wax.

It is raining here today so I do expect to get some beading shots posted this afternoon.

Here's a couple beading shots from today. Water was just flying off the car at 35mph.
