Hey geeks...

I'm planning on asking a few friends to drop their car off at my house on a Saturday so i can do a full interior/exterior detail.

I'm not quick and dirty, as the saying goes, when it comes to detailing, so a good 8-10 hours seems like a decent time frame for me to get it done.

I'm well known for the quality of work I do as a auto technician, and all of these details would be free. Word of mouth seems to be the best kind of advertising....espically when it comes to auto repair. I'm wanting to find out if detailing as a side job is for me.

I'm looking for a good LSP that will last for quite a while. I use Megs NXT 2.0 for my car and truck, but since they are my vehicles, i can wash and re-apply the NXT as i see fit. Looking for a pooduct that will last on a Daily Driver.

Thanks in advance for your replies....

I got 5 months with one application of Menzerna Powerlock with sub-zero temps and a lot of road salt.

Collinite.. any of their LSP's really.

Optimum Opti-Seal.. I'm seeing 3-6 months out of it easy, super easy to apply.

DP Paint coating.. its a coating but is super easy to apply and I have clients that have had it since it was first released and it's still going strong.

Klasse Twins is another good choice

I also think Menz Powerlock is a very good overall performer - good durability, looks, slickness, ease of application, etc.

For freebies I'm pretty sure I would go with 845.

I'm going to go with Meguiar's ultimate wax. It's readily available locally and it's about $20.

Coatings have been designed to be longer lasting
than Waxes and Sealants.

Perhaps this type of LSP would be in the neighborhood of what you're looking for?...If so:
They would present a fantastic opportunity to test your quality of work skill-set.

Second Meg's ultimate. OTC and really does last. Hit with UQW every couple of washes. Dynamite combo.

My answer is more towards freebie production detailing than long lasting.

+1 for Meg's ultimate wax, I'd go for liquid version since it can be applied easily in any condition (even under sun) - both paste and liquid can,

But liquid won't stain trim which may be a time saver for you at the end.

If you properly prep (may also recommend Meg's Ultimate Polish for the combination), your customers will enjoy your work.

Ultimate polish may resolve fine swirls, polish to a high gloss, and being it rich in polishing oils, may even feel minor defects, which can be then Topped with Ultimate wax just over this oils.

Now, for long lasting, I'd go for some Coating like said above, just try to figure out if you'll have market for this coating work where you pretend to do the job.

For me (Brazil), Coating application was the gearing point that allowed me to make detailing my actual main business. Customers here were looking for 'Novelty', Prime Quality, long lasting, and affordable price. With a bottle of Pinnacle Coating (8 oz) you can coat ~25 full size vehicles, including glass and wheels. ~$100 ordering it on sale gives you ~$4 - $5 per application, I don't know for your reality, but in mine, $5 additional cost for coating a full car is 'almost' for free.

The real cost of this job comes from 'Hours Worked', and there's where you define how much you want to earn a day. Product cost is not the most relevant aspect of my work (at least in my case).

*Just beware on your first applications you may run more product than needed, until you get the feeling for it.

Good luck,

Kind Regards.

Only person who gets a "freebie" by me is my GF.

...and she gets Optimum Car Wax.

Ultimate Liquid Wax is certainly good stuff. It just survived the crappiest winter I have seen in a long time on both of my cars.

Not only good, it's cheap for you (in Brazil a bottle costs $100!), OTC, easy to use, don't stain trim, fair durability, great synthetic shine... ... ...
