As Tesla's begin to sell like hot-cakes on Long Island, I am getting more and more clients interested in Opti-Coat Pro. This particular client had told his salesman to leave all protective wraps on and leave it for me to remove after delivery. I recommended this to the client after working on quite a few Tesla's in less than acceptable condition directly from the factory. This worked out in the clients favor as the car was completely swirl free and ready for Opti-Coat.

We scheduled an appointment and got to work immediately. The car was clear bra'd at a local shop of his preference. The installation was much better than Tesla's own package which I believe is outsourced so it can vary from car to car. Some I have seen were fine, others not so much. In this case, the car was close to perfect and I was excited to get to work.

As you can see in the picture below, the paint was in perfect condition through out. All that had to be removed was the glue residue, very carefully, to prevent damaging the perfect clear coat. I also took paint readings and averaged above 140 microns on the entire car! That is between 50-100 microns higher than the other Tesla's I have measured. Very healthy car.

one warning re: leaving the protective film/materials on...

if there is a problem with the paint and the visual inspection was specifically denied by the owner during the dealer prep/ppi...that can be a real problem. i'm not saying specifically with Tesla, but generally speaking. there are dealers and even manufacturers out there who will use that against the owner. it's terrible, but true.

i've personally dealt with this issue and it's can be a mess.

my recommendation is to allow the dealer to remove the protective materials, but DO NOT WASH/TOUCH THE PAINT past that. they may visually inspect it for any issues but that's it. could there still be an issue undetected that's picked up once it's in your hands? sure, but at least they don't have the card in their hand to play re: no ppi visual inspection.

anyway, that's my unsolicited two cents :)

nice job on the detail!
