We recently did a full paint restoration on an original 1959 Cadillac. The paint was original 53-year-old paint. This is one of several cars that we will be doing that were recently purchased from an estate. It is a very cool car, full power windows, doors, seats, and original working air-conditioning! They sure don't make them like they used to. We spent about one week polishing this car and the results speak for themselves. Our major concern was how frail and thin the paint was. In many spots you can actually see the metal underneath the paint, we had to do several very light passes and inspect the paint after every pass. Sorry we have no pictures of us in our golf shirts posing with the paint thickness gauge and white silk gloves as we were spending more time detailing the actual car! LOL. So here was our process! You will notice we did not have to use 30,000 products, just a simple plan of attack and many hours.

Wash with Chemical Guys Citrus Wash and Gloss (http://www.eshine.ca/chemical_guys_citrus_wash__gloss_16oz-807.php)
Several applications of Iron X Soap Gel (http://www.eshine.ca/carpro_iron_x_soap_gel_16oz-5400.php)
Using both The Porter Cable Polisher (http://www.eshine.ca/search.php?pg=1&stext=porter&sprice=&stype=any&scat=) and The Griot’s Polisher (http://www.eshine.ca/griots_garage_6_random_orbital_polisher-4100.php)
Menzerna Intensive Polish (http://www.eshine.ca/menzerna_intensive_polish_po91e_32oz-1502.php) on a white pad (about 6-10 light passes)
Menzerna Final Finish 3000 (http://www.eshine.ca/menzerna_final_finish_ff3000_32oz-1500.php) on a black pad (several passes)
Zymol Ebony (http://www.eshine.ca/zymol_ebony_wax-2309.php) by hand. This wax contains a dye which really helped give the car its wetness and depth back.
Busch Chrome Polish (http://www.eshine.ca/busch_chrome_and_stainless_steel_polish_16oz-700.php)on all Chrome.
Wellworth Crystal Clear glass cleaner (http://www.eshine.ca/wellworth_crystal_clear_glass_cleaner_20oz-3706.php) on all windows.

as you can see the paint was badly stained and etched, cracked and shrunk but there was still some original paint underneath that we were just dying to expose!

Considering what you were working with... impressive to say the least.

There's a football field worth of sheetmetal there (and stainless and chrome, lol)... I'm sure you were tired!

Awesome!

Yes it one one of those jobs that beat you down. When we were done with the paint we looked at the job we had ahead of us on the chrome and wanted to cry.

Don't know how I missed this write-up! I'm a huge 1959 Caddy fan and this type of detail is my favorite type of detail.

Excellent, excellent work!
