I have been lurking in the Autogeek forums for 4 months now, about a month after getting my first new car in over 25 years - a platinum gray metallic 2014 Volkswagen Passat TDI.

I figured it was time to join the forum because I have specific questions on products and technique that I did not see answered in the many threads I searched and read. I am also compelled to join because after reading for 4 months, I think Autogeek is a very helpful, supportive and worthwhile online community in which I wanted to participate!

Due to reasons I won't get into, I was unable to wash my car for the first 2 months of ownership. I didn't know enough to tell the dealer not to prep my vehicle, but I knew enough to ask for a Chemical Guys wash bucket for Christmas. I gave my new car its first real wash the day after Christmas (it was relatively warm and dry in my region at the time). I've really come to enjoy using the CG CWG that came with the bucket and, after lots of research here on Autogeek and watching YouTube videos, I can't believe I used to run my previous cars through automated wash facilities on a regular basis. Never again! At least my new car is untouched in that regard.

I have since added to the CG CWG that came with the bucket:

Duragloss 901 Car Wash
Duragloss 951 Aquawax
Invisible Glass
Mothers Clay Bar kit
Micorfiber chenille wash mitt
Chemical Guys Orange Banger microfibers
Autozone drying microfiber towel
Autozone glass microfiber towels

And just last week I ordered Optimum No Rinse and Sonax Full Effect Wheel Cleaner from another website, but it has been raining off and on the last 5 days so I haven't been able to try them.

I am thinking about making that next step in late April or early May and purchase the Pinnacle Polishin' Pal or maybe even a Harbor Freight DA polisher - I would have never even considered this without these AG forums. I also plan to place an order from AG that will include:

Lake Country 5" backing plate (if I buy the HF DA)
Lake Country pads
Duragloss 501
Duragloss 601
Duragloss 105
Duragloss 931
Nanoskin Wash Mitt/Towel or Speedy Prep Towel
UWW+

I have looked into coatings like Opti-Coat Pro or SS6 but the price quotes I have gotten from detailers has been rather cost prohibitive. But if I really get the hang of detailing my own vehicles, I might even try applying Opti-Coat 2.0 or the new Duragloss Enviroshield Ceramic Coating.

I have enjoyed reading Mike Phillips' articles, all the really great user product reviews, and have learned a lot. I hope to continue to learn much more in this great community.
