I've used the rupes pads, 3m pads, bs pads, lake country pads, some other crappy pads (don't no the name of) - none have flown off..... and usually just use speed six most of the times. No issues here - but YES the velcro backing plate is a BEAST! I feel like Im trying to pull an acme magnet off a safe!

Is that the 5" backing plate in the photo. If so, can you use the 5.5" pad with that plate?

Thanks...Al

One detailer here stated that he had four LC pads fly off the machine. The fourth one flew off and he hit a Porsche fender and cost him $1600. Im just wondering if this was a freak occurrence?

Kevin Brown stated he has used many different pads with the Rupes machine. No biggy.

How does a foam pad cause 1600$ Worth of damage to anything? That sounds crazy to me.

Maybe he meant the machine hit the fender after the pad flew off? Don't know. Just guessing. The thread is on here somewhere. I can't search from my phone.

That's what happened. The machine supposedly hit the panel he was working on. :buffing:

Ok makes more sense now LOL... I was imagining a pad flying off at the speed of sound and destroying a bumber cover :) Hehehe
