Dent, PDR, and how to prep.

Well, I got my first dent in my Challenger. Never how I expected it though. Bird flew head first into a rear quarter panel.

I stopped by a trusted body shop, they confirmed PDR will take it out.

I am not familiar with the exact operation of PDR, but I assume they will affix some sort of device like a professional type pops-a-dent to pull it out.

I will obviously handle removing any marring, they won't touch that part. And I'll take the car there with that panel squeaky clean.

It is currently coated with the PBL surface coating. Anyone think that will effect the bonding of the tool to remove the dent? Should I buff that off and recoat after the work is done, or leave it so I'm only working the paint over one time after the dent is pulled?

I had a PDR done to my fender about a month ago.

Clean the surface before giving it them. I came with some salt on the car and the guy sprayed a "Meguires Final finish" and wiped with a dirty bath towel. I heard what sounded like sandpaper and cringed a little bit.

He heated up the area and used some tools to remove. After it was done, the fender was slightly bubbly, but after about a day it was like there was never a dent there.

There are two main types of pdr. From the inside with long rods and then the outside with glue pullers. Id wash before incase they put their hands on paint elsewhere too.

Mine was done using some long instrument, he went inside the fender a little bit with the tool (partially took off the wheel well) and brought it back from the behind. Took about 10/15 minutes for the whole thing.

I now have to use touch up paint to fill in where the idiot that gave me the dent took paint off...:(

Definitely make sure the panels are clean and go with the PDR that does the repair from the inside. If he's good, you won't be able to tell there was any damage. Black is extremely tricky. I had my roof repaired along with a couple other dents...

This guy was recommended by the body shop I have used on a few occasions. They did both my wife's and my car when we pounded with hail a couple of years ago. There's no evidence of that prior damage from that procedure, so I feel confident he's good.

I wiped the area with a good QD when I got home, there's no paint damage luckily. I have a Dr. Colorchip kit from some touch ups I did before. It's a surprisingly good system for chips. Scratches, not so much.

Around how much will a pro charge to get out a dinger ? ( wifey just got 1st ding in parking lot..I can get the scuff out but the dent..no way)

Theres lots of kits on Amazon...anyone worth it?

No. Just pay a dude who is a pro. For a single dent it's about $100 around here. You don't want to be practicing on your own car to save a few bucks. A pro PDR guy can really do amazing work.

Pay the man. So worth it.

The guy that did my car travels all over the country and works wherever a storm does damage. He even told me that a dealership in South Africa flew him and several other guys out there as an inventory of about 1200 brand new cars got demolished by a hail storm.

He was really good. Took 4 dents out of my car for $150. There truly is no evidence that they existed at all.

Just like to say thanks...

I went with a collision shop down the block from me...

He quoted me $125 for 3 dings on the one door...
(he has a guy that does this work by appointments)

The guy did 5 dings on 2 doors for $150..

You cant even find where they were..

I'm so happy
