I've noticed some tearing in my pad close to the Velcro backing

The face of the pad is still in excellent order. Should I toss this pad or keep it a while longer?

LC Cyan Pad by any chance?

I had the same thing happen to a couple of mine....

I continued to use them for a while longer... but not necessarily sure it is the right advice.

Try calling customer service about this problem, if you got them thru Autogeek.

Greetings,

Looking blue here as well!

Whatever...

In my opinion, you shouldn't use this pad at any customer's car, having the risk to cause major damage if pad fails apart during polishing.

However, I would use it on my own car, where if I cause any damage, I'm responsible and culprit for any stupidity I do on it!

If you're like me, here are some tips to be careful:

Use plenty of product (not much, but not little) to give pad good lubrication.

Do not ever turn the polisher on without putting the pad in contact with paint. If pad oscillates freely on air, it'll tear apart as fast as the blink of an eye.

Also, do not ever remove the pad while polisher still spinning / oscillating. Wait for total stop, for the same reason above.

Be extra careful all the time using a pad in this condition, being prepared to feel the time of death and pull off the trigger one nanosecond before it tears.

Again, I would NEVER use a pad like this on a customer's car, being the risk so high. Indeed, I would use on my own car with all the care listed above for testing purposes, to apply a single product to a single area, etc.

PS: Any damage caused to yours or any car with this teared pad is of your responsibility.

Hope I've helped,

Kind Regards.

Is the backing pad larger than the Velcro? I know that can cause similar damage.

Yeah it is. Are there pads that aren't? Or recessed pads??

You'll need to buy a smaller backing pad or larger pads. IIRC the 4.75" BP is recommended with 5.5" pads.
