Hey everyone,

I have a buddy on one of my car forums that has some wiper scratches on his windshield. He says they are very light and can only by seen when going under lights at night time. However, they bug him. He wanted to get a whole new windshield but I told him I would help him find a detailer that is local to him that would take a look and can probably polish them out. The car is the newest body Toyota Camry. So anybody out in the Philly area capable of polishing out windshield wiper light scratches for him? Can be mobile or fixed location. I will pass along the info and probably this URL to him!

Thanks guys. :xyxthumbs:

How much does a new Camry windshield cost? I've had several common windshields replaced for the $120 range--making polishing only a cost effective option on the more expensive glass pieces.

$120? A new OEM windshield replacement + labor is upwards of $7-800. That is for OEM glass and new OEM seals. But then you get into the seal of the windshield. There is no doubt that the best seal you are ever going to get on a windshield, ever, is with the OEM windshield that the car came from the factory with when new. Even a foreman at a Toyota dealer said he always tells people to never break the OEM factory seal on a windshield unless it is absolutely necessary for safety.

In fact I just got a chip fixed on my Camry windshield. $75 from Safelite. Even Safelite wanted $500 for their generic glass, and I was quoted low $700s for a new one using the OEM glass. But Safelite even told me to not break the factory seal on the windshield unless I absolutely have to since that is the best seal that is ever going to happen.

That is why I recommended to him to try to get his polished out first.

Btw, Nick Oakes is a fellow geek and periodically shares his impressive work, for example:
