View Full Version : Black C6 paint, nothing is working! (Makita 9227c)

I have done several C5 and up vettes and very familiar with the rock hard clearcoat system and what it takes to correct it via my Makita 9227c. However, I have a black C6 right now that has proved to be way more challenging than the other cars.

The defects are very light (on any other car with softer clear I would only do a single step on this), with random deeper defects that will most definitely require an aggressive approach.

I can NOT get this car to finish down to my standards. M205 with the light polishing/finishing pad I have is leaving micromarring. The paint is factory and indeed very hard to cut and remove defects, but its finishing down as if its a softer paint. Heres what I have:

M100, M101, M105 for cutting (LC purple wool, microfiber cutting discs, and the blue cutting hydro LC pads

M205 for finishing (microfiber finishing disc, orange and red LC hydro pads

This is the best I can do. I finishing with low speed, low pressure, and still getting this s h I t .

The micromarring is very faint, and perhaps I'm being too picky, but I have to be.

Sounds like you would benefit from a DA and the application of m205 on a finishing pad.

I find the Menzerna Ceramiclear polishes rewarding on my Black C6.

I'm in a pickle right now and unfortunately can not wait a few days for new products to ship in. Any suggestions on what to do with what I have?

I'm gonna borrow a buddies FLEX and try to knock this thing out....hopefully that'll do the trick!

I just tried the FLEX on it and I'm still not happy. I cut it with M101 and microfiber cutting pad, finished it with M205 and microfiber polishing pad. And it STILL has RIDS and micromarring.

And this is also a reminder to not trust your halogen lighting. This paint looks flawless under my halogens, however the Brinkman and LED lighting tells a different story! In my 5 years of paint correction, this is by FAR the most frustrated I have ever been. I have spend over 6 hours trying to find a combo that I'm happy with, and still am at square 1. That's 6 hours that in my opinion I can not and will not charge for.

Kyle,

I assume you have 'completed' your compounding and polishing over the entire car and thus your picture is representative of the finish overall?

If so, have you tried another test spot with M100/orange & M205/black on the Flex?

Sometimes, well probably most of the time MF pads don't finish well with the Flex IMO.

With the Flex...

What MF pads were you using?

What speed were you finishing with?

Did you try using a finish FOAM pad?

Try the LC crimson and M205 on the Flex 3401(speed 5). Just a few passes. Do not use MF to finish, especially with the Flex 3401.

Yep what Mark said, MF to cut and polish, foam to finish.

Yup the MF pads don't finish well. I usually finish with the white lc pad

I got a few panels into the detail when I realized what I was doing was not working...so I stopped at that point and started playing with different combos. I ended up sticking with the FLEX and doing M100 and optimum microfiber cutting pad, and finished with M205 and tangerine LC hydro...this is pleasing me just fine now

Yea, I found that 205 and an LC hydro tangerine finished the best overall. Thanks for the help folks!
