I had the opportunity to meet with a gentleman who has a nice little collection of cars. While both cars look great there are some minors swirls and scratches throughout the paint. Additionally I did the "Baggie Test" with him and he was very surprised that while the cars felt smooth to the touch of his hand the "Baggie Test" proved that to be untrue and exposed all the bonded contamination on both vehicles. He was very surprised and impressed on what the test showed. Just remember to do this with all of your customers! Here is what I'll be working on this month for him:

Very nice Evan...

While both cars look great there are some minors swirls and scratches throughout the paint.

Taking a very neglected finish and doing an extreme makeover makes it easy to show amazing before and after results.

Taking a a car that's already in excellent to show car condition to an even higher level is a lot harder nut to crack because to most people it already looks good.

Fact is, after a custom car is built, then painted, then buffed... as time goes by the paint condition doesn't tend to get better and better with time and in fact, just the opposite, the paint condition gets worse.

With custom cars like these, what I always call special interest vehicles, they get wiped a lot, so they get fine scratches throughout the finish and they tend to get light above surface contaminants, from all types of sources.

Additionally I did the "Baggie Test" with him and he was very surprised that while the cars felt smooth to the touch of his hand the "Baggie Test" proved that to be untrue and exposed all the bonded contamination on both vehicles.

100% agree.

I was taking to a local guy in Boca Raton, he might attend our class tonight, said he read about the baggie test on our forum and then after reading about it went out and tested the paint on his Ford Lightening F150.

With his bare hand the paint felt smooth. With the baggie test it felt rough. He then called us and ordered around $300.00 worth of products including a Porter Cable, pads, Pinnacle Polishes and Pinnacle Clay.

A simple sandwich baggie opened his eyes to a whole new world, that and a bunch of videos on our YouTube site and articles on this forum.

For anyone reading this, if you detail cars for money you should have a box of thin sandwich baggies with you all the time as well as some spray detailer and a couple of clean microfiber towels so you can show potential customers the Baggie Test.

It will show them that the paint on their car is in fact contaminated and needs "something" and more important it will show them that you actually know something about your business, you obviously know more about their car's paint they do and this will earn their trust.

The hardest part of getting to work on cool cars like Evan is showing in this thread starts with earning your customer's trust. Otherwise... they won't let you touch their babies.

Have fun with these Evan and from experience, there's lots of areas to tape-off and cover-up on the Ford GT40, like the reverse air intake grills on the hood and the rear deck lid.

I would also like to point out that when it comes to building trust with your customer having knowledge and experience to let them know you know what your talking about is key.

Yes, the "Baggies Test" was great to help build that trust that is need when it come to cars like this but explaining a process taking Paint Thickness Measurements and and overall general detailing talk helped build even more trust.
