Sign-up: 1967 Mustang GTA Fastback - Show Car Makeover! (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/sign-up-project-cars-clinics/76806-sign-up-1967-mustang-gta-fastback-show-car-makeover.html)

My buddy and local car guy here in Stuart, Bill Jones called me last week and told me he's going to show his car at this year's Detail Fest but he needs some help with the finish. There's only 3 Thursday nights left between now and Detail Fest and the Thursday before Detail Fest is off the table.

Bill says it has a lot of fine or shallow swirls and scratches so this will be a show car makeover and not a extreme makeover even though we'll do just about as many steps.

So this Thursday night we're going to have a very rare 1967 Mustang GTA Fastback here for a show car makeover. Bill had his car on our TV show What's in Autogeek's Garage? and here's a picture of it Episode 1 - Season 2 and the episode itself.

Yes.

Every time I create a new sign-up thread I copy the guts of an old sign-up thread so I don't have to re-type everything. Then I simply change the date, the car and a few other bits of text.

This time, because I was hurrying, I forgot to update the date. I'll get it after I click on the [Submit Reply] button for this reply.

Thanks for pointing that out....

Thanks,

Glad you can be with us again Al, Mustang Fastbacks are such iconic muscle cars from the 1960's that they are always a lot of fun to work on and the same types of car you see on all the "Car Guy" TV shows on Velocity.

I've added your name to the list and we'll see you here on Thursday.

A show car finish is following the basics only with a major focus on what I call the major correction step in my how-to books.

There's the Major Correction Step, The Polishing or Minor Correction Step, the Jewelling Step and then the sealing step, using either a wax, sealant or coating.

Not sure what tools, pads or products we're going to use yet as I have not seen this car in person lately.

So the first thing we'll do is wipe her down using a waterless wash end then evaluate the condition of the paint and go from there.

I think this is the third or forth classic Mustang Fastback that's been through our garage.

Went to the local car show last night and took some pictures of the local hotrods from the area. The 1967 Mustang GTA Fastback was also there so I took a few pictures to show the current condition.

I know the pictures on the first page of this thread make it look like the car is in show car condition but I think these pictures show otherwise...

Here's Bill the owner with his car. He's wearing the traffic safety vest as he's in charge of getting all the hotrods that attend parked safely.

I'm not very good at night time photography, here's what I could capture using the overhead parking lot lights to reveal the true condition of the paint.
