I finally got around to being able to use the Pinnacle Black Label Diamond Surface Coating (http://www.autogeek.net/diamond-surface-coating.html) on my own personal car a couple weeks ago. I was very excited to take the new product line for a test drive. I had personally seen the results in person on other cars but had yet to play with the products myself. :hungry:

The car was quite a mess to start off (some swirls) . The paint needed to be washed, clayed, and swirl removed. When it comes to applying coatings, you HAVE to make sure your paint is perfect before application :dblthumb2:

What I Used:
Pinnacle Bodywork Shampoo (http://www.autogeek.net/pinbodsham.html)
Nanoskin AutoScrub Medium Grade Wash Mitt (http://www.autogeek.net/nanoskin-autoscrub-wash-mitt-medium-grade.html)
Pinnacle Advanced Swirl Remover (http://www.autogeek.net/pin220.html)
Pinnacle Advanced Finishing Polish (http://www.autogeek.net/pin230.html)
Flex XC3401 VRG Orbital Polisher (http://www.autogeek.net/flex-orbital-polisher.html)
Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA)
Pinnacle Black Label Diamond Surface Coating (http://www.autogeek.net/diamond-surface-coating.html)
Lake Country Coating Applicator 2 Pack (http://www.autogeek.net/lake-country-coating-applicator.html)
Super Plush Junior Microfiber Towels (http://www.autogeek.net/cobra-deluxe-jr--microfiber-towel.html)
Gold Plush Microfiber Towels (http://www.autogeek.net/gold-plush-jr-towel.html)

STEP by STEP:
1. Wash car with Pinnacle Bodywork Shampoo (http://www.autogeek.net/pinbodsham.html) and the Nanoskin AutoScrub Medium Grade Wash Mitt (http://www.autogeek.net/nanoskin-autoscrub-wash-mitt-medium-grade.html). The shampoo removes the loose dirt and the Nanoskin wash mitt pulls out the contaminants stuck in the clearcoat. The Nanoskin wash mitt is an amazing clay bar alternative.

2. Pinnacle Advanced Swirl Remover (http://www.autogeek.net/pin220.html) and Pinnacle Advanced Finishing Polish (http://www.autogeek.net/pin230.html) are used to remove swirls, scratches, water spots, and other minor imperfections. These products are used with the Flex XC3401 VRG Orbital Polisher (http://www.autogeek.net/flex-orbital-polisher.html). I used an orange Lake Country cutting pad (http://www.autogeek.net/lakecountry.html) with the swirl remover and a white Lake Country polishing pad (http://www.autogeek.net/lakecountry.html) with the polish.

3. After the paint is swirl and imperfection free, it's time to clean all the oils and chemicals that were left behind by all the previous products used. You can use Pinnacle Black Label Surface Cleansing Polish (http://www.autogeek.net/black-label-polish.html) or you can use Isopropyl Alcohol like I did. This will clean the clearcoat and prep it for the application of the coating. This step is a MUST in order for the coating to bond properly with the clearcoat.

4. Working one panel at a time, spray Pinnacle Black Label Diamond Surface Coating (http://www.autogeek.net/diamond-surface-coating.html) directly onto the surface and evenly distribute using a Lake Country Coating Applicator (http://www.autogeek.net/lake-country-coating-applicator.html). Work the coating into the surface until it disappears. If high spots occur, lightly buff with a clean, soft, lint-free microfiber towel.

AFTER - The car literally looks like glass - Absolutely Amazing Im the MAN

Conclusion: Being this was my first time applying this coating, I thought it was almost easier than applying a wax . This coating spreads and covers the paint like a champ especially with the Lake Country Coating Applicator. You let it set up for a couple minutes and the excess product (if any) buffs off very easily. The prep steps before the application were the most time consuming. Actually applying the coating was fun, fast, and easy. I would work with this coating on any car any day. The results speak for themselves as you can see. The paint looks like glass. I do apologize for not having a sunshine shot yet, I will get one uploaded as soon as we get some descent weather here in Florida. Raining like crazy here lately :nomore:. Thanks for looking!

DIB and Kona Blue are by far the best color for mustangs. Beautiful Stang you got there.:cool:

Dripping wet. Looks great! I am interested to see how the long term results are with PBL; specifically scratch resistance and beading.

Well Andre, looks like you're doing your homework lol! Fantastic results, and great walkthrough. It was a pleasure to read your input.

My wife would love to hear your comments regarding coating application. Check this out:

... I'm about to wax a detailed car:
Wife: Let's coat instead.
Me: No way 'baby', client paid for wax not for coating.
Wife: DON'T let him know! It'll be way faster...

And this is based on truly conversation! Not only it's extremely easy to use, it's results are outstanding.

You'll notice as the months goes by the car maintains the 'just waxed look and feel' after every wash. When those months goes by, I'm looking forward to hear your experience with Coating Booster.

Again, congratulations on results, top notch.

Thanks for sharing,

Kind Regards.

Car looks very "glassy"! :D

May I ask why you chose not to use the Pinnacle Black Label Surface Cleansing Polish (http://www.autogeek.net/black-label-polish.html) ? Just curious as I should hopefully finish my wife's car this weekend barring any other issues, and am planning on using the cleansing polish.
Did you wash the car after polishing and before IPA? (I need to wash it as the car is covered in compound and polishing dust)
How long did you let PBL sit on the car\cure before bringing outside?

I am also very interested to see how the coating holds up. The beading is amazing so far. I will probably snap a picture today since it's still raining here :Picture:

Yes, it has been pushing 3 weeks since I put the coating on and I haven't even had the urge to put a wax on yet. And I love waxes. The car has been rained on like crazy but yet still looks like glass to me. I will put a coat of wax on top eventually. I can't wait to test out the Coating Booster. Will keep you updated

Because of the crazy weather we were having, the entire detail spanned across 3 days. By the time I actually got a window of time to apply the coating, I realized I didn’t grab a bottle of the Surface Cleansing Polish. I did have some IPA on hand, so I used it to remove the polishing oils.

The Surface Cleansing Polish would have been ideal, as it chemically strips the surface without any chance of inducing scratches or marring into the paint (IPA is very grabby and smeary).

No need to wash the car after polishing. Just use the Pinnacle Black Label Cleansing Polish. This will remove any of the oils and chemicals left behind from the swirl removal and polishing steps. The day I finally coated the car was actually pretty nice out soo I just put it outside to cure

Great feedback.

I have my car coated since november when PBL coating became available.

After that, washing my car started being much more enjoyable.

Here are some fast taken shots of my last wash just to illustrate a bit what we are talking about (PBL Surface Coated Vehicles):

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/data/500/medium/Screen_Shot_2014-01-31_at_3_25_58_PM.png

On 1 and 2 you can notice the car wasn't the dirtiest, but had a huge pile of dust and dirty that had to be washed away.

On 2, you can even notice how reflective the lateral still even behind dust and dirt.

On 3 I've tried to capture some beading that is really 'crazy' with this product (even months after application). Dirty won't stick to it and easily rinses away.

On 4 it's after dry, but not a very good angle, sorry. But it's always the same, car looks like (and feel) just waxed after every wash.

Fact is, I've washed my car only pre-soaking it with foam cannon and rinsing with pressure washer just after (no scrubbing with wash mitt or sponge). I've dried with #34 to get towel slipping over surface.

Couldn't capture water Sheeting, but it's also 'crazy'. Car is almost dry after sheeting water at free flow.

I've tried many waxes and sealants before, I still like them, but this coating is by far the most effective protection I've put on my car since it's inception.

Hope to hear more from your experience with it,

Kind Regards.
