I'm just looking into this - but can someone recommend some software for me? Could be free or $$

Looking to take a lot of photos and set it to music to create a video. Pretty simple I guess. But I'm not a mac user (imovie) nor do I have windows movie maker installed on my operating system

don't need something advanced because I have no experience with this. but I really would like to time the photos well with the changes in the music. So that may rule out any freeware.

Thanks

There is a free one out there that my wife used a lot before but we cannot find it on our computer anymore. She now uses Adobe Photoshop Elements 8, so I am sure that the Elements 10 or newer will work out just fine.
She has recently been using Powerpoint, so it seems to have worked pretty well for what she was doing. She made a presentation for the daughters elementry class and it was slides with music.

Hope this helps.

You should be able to download Windows Movie Maker from the Microsoft website for free if you want to use it..I believe they might have different versions depending on the OS

I use lightroom and photoshop for photo editing. Lightroom does the bulk of the work for me.

thanks. I'm gonna look into using elements 10 on my girlfriends laptop. Are you sure your wife is using 'photoshop' elements or adobe 'premiere' elements ?

appreciate the other comments too. will try to download windows movie maker if elements 10 is a bust.

any problems with it?

Not that I can think of. The videos come out nice. Most I can think of is to continue to keep learning the program. Other than that it works great. I watched some YouTube videos to learn how to use it some.

IMO, Photoshop Elements for photo editing.

IMO, Premier Elements for video editing.

IMO, ProShow - The Ultimate HD Slideshow Tool (http://www.photodex.com/proshow) for slideshows set to music. Take a look and see what you think.

I've done lots of slideshows set to music, proshow by photodex seems like the best/easiest/simplest/fastest/most professional looking to me, IMO.

Windows Movie Maker should have the capabilities to do what you want in some capacity or another. Slideshows tend to be one of the simpler uses for these programs, and there are even some dedicated programs just for that.

I figure Movie Maker would be considered one of the more basic programs, both in interface and capability, but for what you might be doing, it should be fine. In fact, there will still be features that you probably won't use on it if you're using it for slideshows.
I haven't been using Movie Maker myself since Windows XP before 7 and 8 came out, but even then it would work for things like that.

Sorry if I come across as pushing Movie Maker or whatnot.. I'm just recommending it before you spend some money on a more higher end program that might possibly be overkill! :xyxthumbs:

At the very least, I would say to play around with Movie Maker first - either just for 5 minutes or actually setting up what you are making, and if it doesn't suit you, then of course definitely try another option! :dblthumb2:

I'll second the proshow suggestion. Been using it for years to make BluRays for my photography business. Excellent program and easy to use.

For photo editing, I use Nikon Capture NX2 for my NEF/RAW files, then Adobe Photoshop for the extensive "editing".

Good luck!
