After the long awaited release of the UDM, I got mine in the mail on friday. I was at a detail and my wife called me and said a "huge" box came and I knew then it was my UDM!:righton:

I have been using a cyclo for a year now and loved it. But after joining this forum and seeing the PC in action, my aresnal was lacking. Especially after doing a full paint correction on my Jimmy with the Cyclo I knew I needed something with more POWER! So after initial reviews of the UDM vs. PC, I knew what I wanted. So I got home and went straight for the box and opened all my goodies. Upon initial inspection, I was a little worried:( .

After I turned it on for the first time I noticed the orbiting action wasn't that much, if you have seen the cyclo spin it's got a full range of motion. But ok lets keep going. Then I plugged it in.... and holy cow! Cyclo is one speed, 3,000 rpm unloaded. I tested each speed from 1-6 and was very intimidated! But I didn't let that stop me.

The size of the machine was nice, the head fit into my hands like a glove. And weight is about the same as my cyclo, only difference is cyclo all weight is in front, in UDM it's through length of machine. And I don't get the big idea about the cord being too short, to me it was plenty long. To each his own. As far as switch placement, the cyclo has a toggle switch that makes it very easy to turn off/on when needed, to switch panel. The UDM switch you have to search, but im sure once used alot will be no problem, and the speed selector would be better on side of machine so that you can change it without having to stop and look at the butt of the machine. And something that I would take from the cyclo is the handle that goes across the head. I think one could be made since there are two threads on either side of the UDM, i think it would minimize most if not all vibration you feel.

Performace: I used an orange LC pad with 360, speed 5-6 on this truck and all i can say is "holy cow!" It moved along the truck like smooth butter... followd the contours to the "t", and i really didn't have to worry about it buming the head again the the body. The cutting power was phenominal and I didn't seem to bog it down at all, and I put all 185lbs of me into it, yet it still performed like a champion.

In all for me this was a great investment, the UDM will be my correction tool and the Cyclo my finisher. If you on the fence btwn. a pc or udm, go with the udm. It's great!!! And if I left something out or you have ?, I'm more than happy to try and answer them!!! Now on the the DETAIL!!!

nice review .... and con's ???

The vibration is something to get used to, none of that with cyclo. And the one big pad makes it a little harder to get to smaller areas, like the body panel that runs right above the side view mirrors... other than that, I couldn't find anything wrong with it.

Great work on the truck. I'm glad you like the UDM. How much better, faster, easier does it correct than the Cyclo? How long did it take to correct the paint using the UDM? Were your hands numb/tired afterwards? Thanks.

Nice write up...

Ok, so the vibration is going to be more than the cylco but, what about compared to a pc?

More corrective power than a Cyclo? Wow! That is news indeed. I've got about 70 lbs on you and it takes most of it to even slow my Cyclo at all.
Very nice job on the truck!

Very nice detail, and great write-up! I'll also ask, how long did it take to do that huge truck with the UDM? Truck looks great!
With each UDM review, I definitely want to get one soon, to complement my PC. UDM with larger pads and PC ready to go with 4" pads.

ok... becuase the cyclo is single speed you have to spend alot more time in a single area and use more force. the the udm creating more heat I think it helps cut better and thus you don't have to sit and go over the same spot again and again. If i were doing a full paint correction I would have to do 7 steps with a cyclo.

1 pass yellow wool pad= compound
1 pass blue wool pad= compound
1 pass yellow foam pad= compound
1 pass yellow foam pad= polish
1 pass green foam pad= polish
1 pass blue pad= wax/glaze/sealant
1 pass white pad= wax/

with the udm maybe 4-5 steps. It took me 20-25 mins to go over the whold truck top to bottom. now i only did single stage with 360 and being white dang hard to tell every swirl. becuase im mobile and have limited time on every vehicle I don't get everything.

my hands felt a little weird, I wear Mechanics gloves when using a maching to so i don't touch the paint. so the gloves help absorb some of the vibration, but they weren't tired. as i said before, the udm and cyclo are the perfect 1-2 punch if your doing correction and then waxing... i could of covered the truck in 10 mins with the cyclo applying wax

never used a pc. so i couldn't tell you, from other reviews that i've read... the vibration is supposed to be less than pc
