After 2 hours of searching I give up on finding the answer although I know it's in here somewhere!!! :)
Can I use a 3" backing plate with a 3.5" or 4" pad? I need to clean the A pillars and a few other small areas where a 5.5" or 6" pad are just too big.
Oh, I have the PC 7424xp
HELP!!

Your safest bet would be a 4" pad on a 3" backingplate.

Maybe this will help you out:
Hook and Loop Backing Plates, Velcro brand hook & loop backing plate, meguiars backing plates, lake country backing plates (http://www.autogeek.net/backingplates.html)

Now that's exactly what I needed. I'm glad the 3" and 3.5" plates and pads will work as I really don't want to buy a 3" DA polisher in addition to my 7424xp.
Thanks!! :xyxthumbs:

I believe a 3" backing plate is more versatile than a 3.5". A 3" bp will enable you to use all sizes of pad, in contrast a 3.5" bp will limit you to 4" and above.
You're on the right track.:xyxthumbs: The Porter Cable machine works great with smaller pads.
