Hey guys.

Quick question. I will be putting the 3M vinyl wrap on the roof of my car. it's matte black. How can you clean it?? just regular car wash? or can i use the vinyl cleaner on it?? I know if there are any bugs that get stuck on it and any bird dropping i need to get them off quickly. any advice would be great.:dblthumb2:
Thanks,
Grady.

My Raptor has matte black decals which are maintained with a regular wash and protection from UTTG.

Ultima Tire & Trim Guard Plus, tire & trim protectant, tire dressing, rubber protectant (http://www.autogeek.net/ultima-tire-trim-guard.html)

It does deepen the color and gives a slight satin look but nothing that I would say detracts from the decals.

BUT there is always the option for non-black decals or wrap to use

Chemical Guys Meticulous Matte Auto Wash, car wash shampoo, matte finish car wash (http://www.autogeek.net/meticulous-matte-auto-wash.html)
Chemical Guys Meticulous Matte Detailer 16 oz. (http://www.autogeek.net/chemical-guys-meticulous-matte-detailer.html)

I almost forgot to mention.... never, I mean NEVER bring your car through a scratch and swirl car wash. We have a forum member with a GT500 that learned the hard way when the dealership of all people prepped his car (with matte black stripes) by bringing it through their own scratch and swirl automated wash bay. Cost him a pretty penny to fix a 5 minute mistake (not his fault mind you)

ok well here is what i got

3M Scotchprint Series 1080 M12 Matte Black Vinyl Wrap (http://www.metrorestyling.com/3M-1080-Scotchprint-Matte-Black-Vinyl-p/matte1080m12.htm)

i think the Chemical Guys Meticulous Matte Detailer 16 oz. would work to clean and protect it. I'll wash the wrap when i wash the car then apply the chemical guys matte detailer after that. Just need something to protect it from any bird droppings or other buggs hitting it. bird droppings stained my old wrap and had to take it off. so i want to make sure to protect it this time around.

thanks for the link DR. Pain.

I've used quick detailer but it leaves streaks and its hard to get a clean finish if its matte black. I've used 303 on the vinyl I have on my car and given the color and finish I never have issues. Just the matte finish in black that gives me issues.

Most of the times wax and sealant will work great too. No streaking.

FWIW...
Just had the clear wrap done on my wife's Subaru. The installer instructed me to just a normal auto soap and wash, use a wax or sealant BY HAND, no machines. He also said do not use a clay bar and stay away from auto car washes, which I don't use anyway.
Most importantly, allow the film to cure/dry before washing.
I have used the DP Waterless wash and Quick Detailer with no issue.
The installer did his entire car in the wrap and his roof line was a different color than the body. It looked really sharp.
Also, I'm sure the installer will advise you or are you installing it?
Hope this helped.

I don't want to put down the helpful people that have replied. ( I was curious about cleaning vinyl wrap in general.) However, the OP asked about MATTE vinyl wrap. From the matte & textured section of the 3M care guide posted above,
" Do not apply waxes, polishes, paint or clear coat over these films."

I did not recommend this Polish Angel product.
I'd appreciate it if you'd abstain from adding to my lists from now on.
Thanks.

thanks funx27. read it and that answered my question.

Yes I will be applying the wrap. I wrapped all the center console of my car. I'm pretty good at doing it, not perfect act it but a few more times of applying it i'll get it down perfectly.

Thanks for the help guys.

Grady.

You are fine applying waxes and sealants to the matte wrap.... Though, I would suggest a coating for far greater and longer lasting protection.
Just do a test spot to confirm if you're worried about certain products you may have.

Yea once i get it done i'll post some picks of it. It's 100% humidity here now and it's been like this for the past 3 days. just hope by tomorrow it'll drop. can't get too much done bc nothing gets dried up. My car port that is covered is completely wet inside.

Well finally got the wrap on last week when the one day it didn't rain. It could have come out a bit better but i'm happy with it. I just washed my car today with the test pinnacle shampoo wash i got and it's a great product. I liked it a lot.

Not sure how to post pics so hope they work like this. please let me know if you can't see them.
Thanks,
Grady
