I just got the polisher for $60 from harbor freight that has the Velcro on the back. It came with no pads

I found this one at northern tool for $79 for Black Friday.

Which is a better buy and best choice for beginners.

Well since you already have the HF DA start with that.
Ditch the backing plate, not very good and buy you a backing plate that will accept 5.5 inch pads , the smaller pads work better which gives you a better cut.

Ultimate Compound is a good compound to start with along with Ultimate Polish.

Now buy you some good LC flat pads and you'll be ready to tackle pretty much anything for your needs.

Are the back plates expensive? And do you get those at a local store or online only? I have this all purpose compound that I bought from my local supplier. More to removing scratches I believe. What ultimate compound would you recommend?

I don't think I could find a backing plate here where I live but you can buy it here on the site , not expensive.

You can buy Meguiar's Ultimate Compound at any auto parts place, here or at any Wal-Mart.

Try this link

lake country 5 inch backing plate, 5 inch backin plate, 5 inch hook and loop backing plate (http://www.autogeek.net/lc43125.html)

UC

Meguiars Ultimate Compound, polishing compound, rubbing compound, meguiars rubbing compound, meguires, meguiars polish, auto compound polish (http://www.autogeek.net/meguiars-ultimate-compound.html)

Harbor freight has a backing plate but it's for a rotary. If you want to buy a backing plate locally, you can probably find it at an automotive paint store

Check that link that hate swirls posted otherwise

SoFlo...the link in your sig, is that a link to your detailing shop in Florida?

Brandon's Auto Detailing | Premium Auto Detailing in Ocala, FL. (http://brandonsautodetail.com/)

Just curious...because you normally don't hear questions like this from someone that already owns/runs a detailing business.

Are the back plates expensive? And do you get those at a local store or online only?

Here's another question, why does the Carrera GT have a signature for another detailing website on the bottom right?

Oh no I don't. I am detailing mobile but I haven't started advertising anywhere. Just need the site cached with google and all that fun stuff.

I would recommend getting a better quality backing plate like in the link Hate Swirls posted.

Backing plates are extremely important so getting a quality product is highly recommended.

Yeah I don't have a problem ordering one because I'm still new and I will be washing more cars right now than polishing.

You will be a lot happier with a better backing plate. :xyxthumbs:
