Hey guys,

Just wanted to share my experience on correcting my truck's paint.

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u485/iron_worker/Detailing/2009%20Z71%20Silverado/20131101_104527_zpsbd5ed756.jpg (http://s1070.photobucket.com/user/iron_worker/media/Detailing/2009%20Z71%20Silverado/20131101_104527_zpsbd5ed756.jpg.html)
Started with a wash. Didn't dry it because I thought I'd use the left over moisture to help with the claying.

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u485/iron_worker/Detailing/2009%20Z71%20Silverado/20131101_104536_zpse3eb22f9.jpg (http://s1070.photobucket.com/user/iron_worker/media/Detailing/2009%20Z71%20Silverado/20131101_104536_zpse3eb22f9.jpg.html)
The paint was in decent condition. Looks good from a distance.

... but there are definitely some swirls. I think some probably put in by me when I used to use a chamois to dry ... that was before I found out about AG! lol

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u485/iron_worker/Detailing/2009%20Z71%20Silverado/20131101_105615_zps62275bcc.jpg (http://s1070.photobucket.com/user/iron_worker/media/Detailing/2009%20Z71%20Silverado/20131101_105615_zps62275bcc.jpg.html)
It was really cold when I started working ... about 1C (33F ish) and my clay bar was super hard and was actually marring the paint up fairly badly.

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u485/iron_worker/Detailing/2009%20Z71%20Silverado/20131101_110700_zps43caa735.jpg (http://s1070.photobucket.com/user/iron_worker/media/Detailing/2009%20Z71%20Silverado/20131101_110700_zps43caa735.jpg.html)
But one pass with Wolfgang Swirl Remover on an orange cutting pad with my GG 6" DA seemed to do the trick. I used the same method as I used for my GF's 2006 Cobalt. I figured the clear was probably a similar GM product/hardness and it was.

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u485/iron_worker/Detailing/2009%20Z71%20Silverado/20131101_112943_zps20f9795c.jpg (http://s1070.photobucket.com/user/iron_worker/media/Detailing/2009%20Z71%20Silverado/20131101_112943_zps20f9795c.jpg.html)
The box sides came out quite nice.

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u485/iron_worker/Detailing/2009%20Z71%20Silverado/20131101_162307_zps9e7c7c7c.jpg (http://s1070.photobucket.com/user/iron_worker/media/Detailing/2009%20Z71%20Silverado/20131101_162307_zps9e7c7c7c.jpg.html)
I only got the box and roof done the first day. The sun starts going down around 5-6PM now and it didn't go above freezing until almost noon so not a lot of time to work! It's tough to see but the cab is still swirled up.

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u485/iron_worker/Detailing/2009%20Z71%20Silverado/20131102_123306_zps987e1a1b.jpg (http://s1070.photobucket.com/user/iron_worker/media/Detailing/2009%20Z71%20Silverado/20131102_123306_zps987e1a1b.jpg.html)
The previous day my cutting pads were getting pretty dirty and I had a suspicion it was from my chrome so I used my 3" GG DA to polish my chrome side panels and front bumper/grille first thing the next day. This is after a wash and being clay bar'ed... Is this normal?

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u485/iron_worker/Detailing/2009%20Z71%20Silverado/20131102_124621_zps806c097b.jpg (http://s1070.photobucket.com/user/iron_worker/media/Detailing/2009%20Z71%20Silverado/20131102_124621_zps806c097b.jpg.html)
A 50:50 shot on the hood that really shows nothing because the light was at the wrong angle. ha

http://i1070.photobucket.com/albums/u485/iron_worker/Detailing/2009%20Z71%20Silverado/20131102_162021_zpsd8e08a6a.jpg (http://s1070.photobucket.com/user/iron_worker/media/Detailing/2009%20Z71%20Silverado/20131102_162021_zpsd8e08a6a.jpg.html)
On day 1, I used the orange cutting pad with WG swirl remover followed by a white pad with finishing glaze and then concourse paint sealant applied with a blue pad.

On day 2 I started running short on time/light and had to forgo the white pad with finishing glaze for the cab/hood ... I honestly can't tell the difference. So that's interesting... I guess if I were using a true compound then I would probably see some marring left over.

I'm really pleased with how the front end turned out. The chrome brightened up nicely and it really seems to gleam.

Of course the sun went behind the clouds as I was finishing. ha

I didn't get to the tires so they could use some shine but I really only had time for the paint correction. I put in 10hr+ over 2 days and that was all the weather would allow. I live in a condo so not such luck on a garage...

Of course it rained (and is now snowing) the very next day... but the new sealant seems to be doing it's job nicely. The paint should now be protected for the winter.

I wish I had time to do a full wheel/tire/wheel well detail + full interior etc etc but I just didn't this time. Seems like winter is now closing in so I probably won't get to that for a while now... Anyway, I'm happy with the results. Let me know what you guys think!

Thanks guys!

We got a big dump of snow last night and the weather is looking like it might stay below freezing now for a while ... maybe until spring. :help: Looks like I might have picked the last possible weekend to do this paint correction before the big freeze sets in. ha

LOL ... could be.

I was actually just running upstairs to grab something and then leaving right away again.

Anyway, it's -18C here today (~0F) and I'm somewhat amazed that just a few short days ago I was outside polishing...
