To give you an idea of what I started with...

Before washing.

Claying 1/4 of the hood. It literally felt like sandpaper without a baggie...worst contamination I've ever seen on the hood and fenders.

Hood.

I'm not sure if the water spots on the hood are etched or not, nothing catches with my finger nail. Could it even be spots of clear coat failure? I've never seen anything this bad before. Literally there are water spots all over the truck. It's completely oxidized, the paint is extremely dull. It's going to be a great before and after if I can pull everything off safely.

Any words of wisdom before I start to polish this truck? It's going to be a one step, but if I don't get the results I'm looking for then I have to call the owner again and re-quote him for 2-3 steps.

In all my years at detailing I don't think I ever saw a Ford paint look this way, hard to tell what that crap is from the pictures.

I'd hit it with a compound just to see if any corrections are made.
If nothing then I'd try some 2k sandpaper and wet sand a test spot.
Just from looking at the pictures it seemscwet sanding might be the only way to fix it.
Please post some after pictures because this is one I'd love to see. Lol

Good luck:dblthumb2:

I would use FG400 or M101. If you have Wolfgang uber compound that will work also. These compounds finish to a high gloss so I think you will be fine. I would apply Klasse AIO after since its a polish, cleaner, and wax in one.

So I've done a test spot with FG400 and a white polishing pad...

After IPA wipe down...it's unbelievably oxidized.

I've removed all water spots and come closer to leveling and removing any etching.

The paint has what looks like impact fractures in it. The tiny spots you see in the light of the first pictures are the fractures. It's like something hit the paint and caused cracks from the center of the spot outward. My nail just barely catches them, but I've never seen anything like this before.

Anyone?

Haha we think alike, I tried FG400 and got good results, but I have uber. I'll try that next.

I'm going to apply detailer's paint coating as LSP.

Yup, paint looks great. Definitely a winning combination. Those fractures are something the owner will have to live with. If this was a show car or the person really wanted to have it done, Id wet-sand it.

Awesome. Thanks for the guidance.

I'll contact the owner and see where he wants to go.
