Here's another really sweet streetrod we had for the 2014 season of My Classic Car with Dennis Gage.

We shot two different segments with this custom Ford F100 one of them sharing Pinnacle's Black Label Diamond Paint Coating.

There were some swirls and a few random isolated deeper scratches in the paint and in the short amount of time I had I did my best to remove them off the hood which we would use to demonstrate our new coating.

After we shot this segment I did use the new Black Label Diamond Surface Cleansing Polish with a Porter Cable to prep the paint and then I applied the Black Label Diamond Coating to the front clip.

Now that this product line has been introduced Max is having me send the owner the complete Black Label line of products as a thank you for letting us use his truck.

Here's a few pictures from this segment...

Here's the truck after Mike the Grip positioned it on the set.

Here you can see some of the swirls and scratches...

I really needed to take a rotary buffer to the paint but I had the Flex 3401 already out and ready to use so I just did the best I could in the time I had...

Some pretty deep scratches...
I used an orange foam cutting pad first and that removed all the swirls, it didn't get out all the really deep scratches. Some were deep enough that it would probably be faster to machine sand them first using some #3000 followed by #5000 but on a TV set you really don't have time as a luxury. In this shot I'm re-polishing with a soft foam pad and Pinnacle Advanced Finishing Polish to max out the gloss and clarity.

These shots were taken after we shot this segment. I didn't want to send the truck home with the owner with the coating only applied to the passenger side hood so I knocked out the entire hood and tops of the fenders...

This was a really cool truck to have on the show and truck like these are so much fun to work on compared to a Honda. (Nothing against Hondas, or any new car).

This is the kind of "vehicle" that is the norm for My Classic Car and even for shows like Overhaulin.

It's Chip Worthy. :D

I also believe that anyone watching this show or even the work we do cars and trucks like this at our Thursday night projects are smart enough to figure out that if they buy and use the same products I show on show cars they can get the same kind of results on their car no matter what it is...

The truck came in with some very deep scratches in the hood that could be seen on camera. On a TV shoot like this there is NOT a lot of extra time to get real deep on a buff-out so I did the best I could in the time I had to remove as many of the scratches out of the hood that I could. Sad to say I couldn't get the deepest scratches out.

Very nice truck...

Here's what I applied to the candy paint on this truck before it went public...

Makes the paint on this old Ford look very clear and glassy like paint should look and it will do the same for your car too.

Mike...... that is absolutely incredible! I don't think anything else needs to be said, except that the low grill shot is my FAVORITE!

Thanks for educating and inspiring!

Looks great as all of your work does!! Did you apply black label surface coating by finger pocket or the lake country pad?

Wow!! This makes me so excited to try out my PBL! Getting it for Xmas so I'll probably wait til January. Being a college student I'll have a nice break to detail while others are out partying ...now to clean out the garage in anticipation. So jealous of all of you who have "Garage Mahals".

I detailed (hand compounded/waxed) a 1950something ford f100 like this with original red exterior a few years back before I discovered AGO... mind you I was still an early teen then but I really wish I had seen your article on SS paint with that gold Linlcoln back then!! Would've helped tremendously! It's funny b/c most people start on DD's but I started on that ford and my friends' dads red galaxie, black mercury montclair (my avatar) and grandpa's old baby blue 69 mercury montery conv.... and progressed to DD's, doing the classics every once and awhile thereafter. Everyone has to start somewhere I guess! Anyway I'm rambling now. That paint really pops! Keep up the good work Mike! :buffing:

Thanks Fransisco...

There were deep scratches in the hood when the truck arrived and in hindsight I should have taken a wool pad on a rotary buffer to the paint to remove them.

There isn't any "extra time" when you're taping a TV show, there's dollar amount for every minute on the set whether you're filming or setting up to film.

I had about 10 minutes to buff out the hood before we shot the segment and I had the Flex 3401 already set up with a foam cutting pad just off to the side of the set. So I grabbed it and did the best I could in the time alloted.

I'm posting this now because there's always the "person" that will see the segment and point out any defects they see without knowing the behind the scenes story so this is the behind the scenes story and should the need arise I can share this post with the "person".

That paint looks like a pool of red...WOW!

I agree. Getting "cool" cars lined up for a TV show in a state where I don't live takes a little behind the scenes work each year and it also requires earning the trust of the local car guys.

Luckily I accomplished this by earning the trust of my buddy Tinker after working on his truck in this episode.

Most people never see all the behind the scenes work that goes into creating a segment like these but it all starts with a thread like this one and then a bunch of e-mails, Facebook posts and phone calls on my part.

Looks like I may make a switch come spring.

I would like to see the results on a silver colored vehicle...

A silver you car you say?

Gee... we did a Thursday Night Show Car Makeover using a silver car just a few weeks ago... the write-up includes,

Before shots
During shots - all the work we did and the pads, products and tools used
After shots

Technically we used Black Label Diamond Surface Coating on the paint and not the Diamond Paint Coating but click on the link and check out the results, they're completely impressive.
