After detailing 2 cars on Saturday I was shot and it was cold on Sunday , plus I felt like I was coming down with something, but I wanted to wash my Durango. So I go to a decent hand car wash and as I am waiting and watching the car in front of me be washed I started to cringe and almost left due to the brushes on the wheels, same mitts and crappy towels. I still had some detailing stuff in the back of the Durango, so I popped open the hatch and handed them 3 clean MF mitts, 1 for upper, 1 for lower and 1 for wheels, then they dried with a leaf blower and I handed them 4 MF drying towels to use on the paint and wheels, making sure they didn't use the wheel towels on the paint. I told them skip the tire dressing too.

They must have thought I was crazy and so did the customer behind me. So he asked why I did that and I explained how improper washing and drying scratches the car...........etc. So he asked me how much for a full detail on his Fiat 500, 75-90 bucks?.............I chuckled and said it would be more than that even though its a small car. Out of respect, I did not hand him a card in front of the owner of the hand wash. I gave them a nice tip and the owner said I could bring my own supplies anytime I want. I guess this will be my routine for the winter..........lol

Thanx for the link Mike. Next time I go I am going to do the same exact thing, except maybe bring some detail spray for the drying process. Any other suggestions?

I really really want to open my own hand car wash utilizing the processes we all use on AG, but already have a full time job and with this type of business you need to have someone you really trust. Maybe when I retire in 14 yrs............lol

If I was in that position I would have done the same thing. I would rather have a perfect car and look like an idiot rather then knowing the people washing my car are messing up all the hard work I put into keeping the car perfect.

At least the "Hand Wash" near me uses the two barrel method.

And I'm pretty sure that they wash their wool mitts at least once a month too.

They had 2 barrels too. I like the idea of bringing my own equipment. When I got home I hit the paint and wheels with some d156.
