Hi all,

I'm a semi-noob who's recently gotten into the world of polishing. I purchased a PC7424xp and various LK foam pads to do my car and had great results.

The next beast I want to tackle is glass and I would really appreciate some guidance from you all before I screw something up.

Attached is a picture of my windshield as clean as I can get it. You will notice the millions of tiny specks that appear on the glass. Has this happened to anyone else?

A few months ago I had to repaint a section of the roof and in the process definitely left some overspray on the windshield to which I sanded out all that I could see. Is it possible that the specks is still just overspray? its 99.9% smooth to the touch but occasionally I feel an outer bump to it which I guess is better than inner.

To keep it simple, what would you all recommend is the best cleaning product and applicator pad to use with my DA polisher to remove the sand marks and whatever the specks are and making the glass appear 100% transparent again?

I'm not ruling out that I might have to sand the entire glass with 2000 or so but it's the "compound" choice that I'm unsure of.

Thanks so much!

If you have a rotary or a DA, I would get the Carpro Cerium Oxide compound and glass pads! (5" and 3" with appropriate backing plate). You would not need to sand the glass. This would take care of that :)

CarPro Rayon Glass Polishing Pad, glass leveling discs (http://www.autogeek.net/carpro-rayon-glass-polishing-pad.html)

^ that's the stuff. You need to clay the glass first (just like paint ) to remove any bonded contaminants. Once its clayed and clean, than you will know what you are dealing with.

I've corrected glass before. Its possible to remove defects like wiper scratches, however, it's not possible to remove pitting (too deep).

Clay the glass and clean it well and report back.

Never heard of anyone sanding glass with 2000 grit. Sanding plastic headlights yes, but not glass. As Dr. Pain recommended, use Ceri Glass with a 4" glass pad.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Now, I did clay a small section to see if that took off the specks. It didn't.

A lot of sources have pointed to ceriglass so I'll take the leap and try it out.

Will report back when I've tried it!

Why on earth would you ever sand glass???? My god. Do you have any idea how hard it is to get rid of defects in glass in the first place, let a long sanding marks? I really hope what i read isnt true...

My wife tells me how clean I keep my windows but I always see the hundreds of micro sized scratches. I'd love to be able to rid of them once and all.
