I've been a lurker some time now. But i've been detailing for about a year and half now. I started off with Megs UC, UP, and NXT 2.0. But have gradually moved up to Megs 105/205 Combo with Collinite 845 which has been my go to combo for the last 6 months on various cars. Until i got on AGO..... I finally got the chance to work on my car with the D300/105 + MF Pad. I just picked up Sonax Perfect Finish which I must say is absolutely amazing and worth the pretty penny. I then finally bit the bullet and bought some opticoat. But heres my write up!

Exterior:

Meguiars APC

Meguiars D300/M105

Sonax Perfect Finish

Mild Clay

Opti Coat 2.0

Opti Tire Gel

MF/Black pads

Various Microfibers

I dont have very many before shots, but here is what my car looked like Wednesday after it rained some.

I started to actually begin correcting, but only finished the hood/fender sealing it up with BFWD to see if I liked the look. It was okay, but I wanted more. So here begins the real write up.

Washed with Dawn Soap to make sure all old wax was gone. I knew that the sealant would remain, but I knew i was going to polish it off anyways. Heres how it sat after a wash.

Clean Right?.....

Began claying, and this came off half the trunk

Swirls and marring from the mild clay

Overall the paint wasnt too bad. This was a shot of the fender I corrected about a month ago.

Etchings over the hood from the recent rain/dirt stains. I thought BFWD wouldve held up a bit better. Unless I didnt wash thoroughly enough.

Setting up the lights/tape lines. Marring from clay and swirls across the door.

50/50 of the driver door. The D300 left some haze. But dont worry i'll clean that right up.

Done compounding. I started bright and early this morning around 5:45 AM.

Looks almost LSP ready right?

Pulled it out into the sun to inspect any missing spots.

Time to make it shine. SPF was super easy to apply, and easier to wipe off. Worked between 3.5-4 on a black pad, 3-5 passes was all it needed. People who reviewed the product didnt lie that it gums up the pads!

Time to coat with OC 2.0. This was my first time, and I think i did a pretty good job.

And now time for the money shots. Enjoy!

I didnt know what to expect, so i went light, but realized after the first two panels that I was going too light. So I went back around and added another thin coat. Does this applicator tend to marr the paint? I know Honda paint is super soft, so in certain areas, I noticed some marring that werent there before I began coating. What can i do about this? Lightly polish and reapply another layer of OC within 30 days? I'm sure the more I do it, the better i'll get. I'll be taking the wheels off and coating them this week.

Total time spent: 13 hours.

Very nice work. I love seeing a properly polished black vehicle.

BTW, your car is tastefully stanced.

Thank you. I was going for a simple and classy look. Nothing too over the top.

Here's some of my other cars I recently worked on that I need to do write ups on!

Looks great!

I absolutely LOVE this photo... I saw it and just stared at it for a minute... exposure/processing is spot on... I wish it was from a lower angle and we could see a bit more of the car, but yeah... I still like it as is :)

As Mike mentioned... very clean looking car - nice stance and fitment, nothing too crazy, but very classy looking.

Unless I missed it, I didn't see any mention of an IPA or Eraser wipedown prior to coating. Did you wash the vehicle and strip it with IPA prior to installing the OC?

Also, the OC applicators are awful IMO. Buy yourself some CQuartz Applicator blocks and suede cloths and you will use less product and it will be easier to install.

Yeah I totally forgot about the IPA write up. I did do an IPA wipe of the whole car right after the Sonax polish. I should've thought ahead of time with the suede cloths. Now I know.

And thank you for the compliment. That phot was actually unedited. I myself stated at the photo on the camera and was amazed on my 27" display.

Thanks, I just shoot with a nikon d90, with a 35mm f1.8 in full manual.

I should have an Audi in the next month and a few guys in SoCal from my accord forum contacted me to do their cars.

Love my 35 f/1.8, that and my 50 f/1.8 are my most used lenses.

Trying to decide if I want to get a 70-200 f/2.8 or a 105 f/2.8 macro next. I used to have a true macro lens and it was fun to play with, I miss it sometimes, but I think I would get much more use with a 70-200 for now.
