Decided to jump in and try to correct the swirls and water spots in my 2008 silverado. I decided to de-badge the truck before polishing to clean things up a little. I don't think it has ever been waxed, clayed, or polished. I found out quickly that my Griot's Machine Polish #3 and 6" orange cutting pad on a GG DA was not enough to knock out the defects quickly.

Here is a quick shot of the swirls and staining from the lettering.

I did just the bed and was able to get decent results with several passes and applied KSG after.

The paint looks and feels so much better. It sounded like I was sanding the paint when I was claying.

Do you think M105 with an orange pad followed with a fine polish would achieve better results? The cab is much worse than the bed was so I want something to cut faster.

You're on the right track brother. GM paint is generally on the hard side so you will probably have to be more aggressive with it. Try the m105 on the orange pad then the polish on a white pad, it should give you the results you are after. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the advice. I figured I was on the right track after all the reading I have been doing but its always good to hear someone with experience chime in.

You got good advice. I used an LC orange pad with M105 and a LC white pad with M205 when I did my 02 camaro. I ended up going with a meguiar's microfiber cutting pad followed by a LC polishing pad with M205 when I did my dad's 02 camaro. Worked much better with less passes.
