Going to detail a 2005 MDX tomorrow. Thing is trashed. Lots of scratches and swirls. Was thinking it will need a compound first since it's so bad.

Or should I just start with a medium swirl remover?

Start with a swirl remover on the test spot :) If that didn't do the trick move up to the next cutting compound. My order is TSR, Sonax and finally Wolfgang Uber or 105. Being that old and probably not overly taken care of, I see a compouonding session. Of course this depends on what they are looking for to get out of the deal. Heck TSR might make them be ecstatic!

If the paint is as soft as my 2008 Honda CR-V, a medium swirl remover will likely do the trick. Except for that rear hatch, its hard to get pressure on it because its curved, so I needed a compound there.

Always do a test spot with the least aggressive first and move up from there. Its the only way to tell what you need to use and even if I have done that model of car before I still do test spot just to make sure that combo still works.

Megs UC might even work for you with an orange CCS pad. Here is a 2009 Accord I did that was scratched to hell from self serve car wash brush.

That's exactly what I was going to use.

The 2005 MDX arent to hard to clean up. Orange or Tangerine pad with M205 will do wonders, UC will defiantly clean up the mess you described.
