So I was contacted to tackle this 91 Pontiac Trans Am. Upon arrival I found this car swirled out and rough to the touch. Being that it was black well it looked better in the shade than the sun but thats what I was there for.

I got the wash all done and the claying finished. Well when I stated claying I got a surprise that I wasn't expecting…… SOFT SOFT PAINT!!!! So you will see in the photos below my speedy prep towel marred the crap out of there paint and so begins my great day.

After getting the car dried and tapped of time for a test spot. Well lets just say I am glad I had all my polishers. I tried my Flex today with my hybrid pads and about everything I tried and every combo I could not get this paint to finish down at all. After lots of trial and error I finally got a combo that worked:

Rupes and polishing pad with Sonax Perfect finish followed by M205 on a LC hydrotech pad on my GG6"

Here are some photos:

Great turnaround. The black paint looks 110 % better. How long did it take for the whole job. Thanks for posting and sharing. What grade towel were you using as the clay substitute?

Took about 8 hours for the correction. The towel was a fine grade so just goes to show you how soft this paint was.

That's why they hired you....nice work. I had a repainted car that must have lacked much activator in the clear coat. I had to use 600 gsm2 MF towels to keep from putting in swirls when I wiped off the polish. I'm a freak about my towels and keeping them completely dust free but even the short nap side of the grey cobra 530's scratched the paint. I could only use the long nap side of the towel. That's when I switched to the chinchilla towels and it finished out nicely. I'm definitely not a fan of super soft paint so I feel your pain on this one. I had to send the customer off to his car show with a couple of my chinchilla towels and some UWWP.

I ran into the same issue as well with this. I love my 530 and they were scratching and make more of a head ache so I went to the chinchillas for this car.

Thanks!

Very nice.

This was a repaint ad not a great one except on the front and back bumpers which those were painted by a different person than the rest of the car so those were good. I wish it has a typical hard GM paint.

Very nice

Thanks

Very nice work Evan. That towel did mar up the paint pretty bad.

The afters look impressive. What was the LSP?
